Stupid Garage Oopsie, Need upper cowl and support

I always park the bike in the garage by barely leaning the exhaust side up against the wall while I fetch and hoist it up on the rear stand. However, on Friday I didn't quite have it leaned over good enough. When I went to get the stand, I saw out of the corner of my eye that the bike started leaning away from the wall and was headed towards the floor! I jumped back over and saved it from hitting the deck, but not before my arm shattered the upper cowl, cowl support and the zg screen.

Dammit!

So now I need a new or nearly new upper cowl and support. Even at ronayers.com, these are expensive parts. Anyone have suggestions for where to get used or alternative replacements? Not sure I want to go with race plastic, since the rest of the bodywork is clean and shiny.

I probably should've let it hit the deck, and the frame sliders might've kept the damage to less than it was, but I haven't dropped the bike in a year and a half of daily driving, and damned sure wasn't going to do it in the freaking garage.

Anyways, thanks for letting me rant and I would appreciate any pointers. I guess now would be a good time to just go ahead and send the forks off to Kyle since the bike will be offline for a while. (shrug)

Oh, and here's a pic I took just moments before the incident. I'd yanked the rear cowl stickers last weekend and a friend wanted to see what the bike looked like. I was putting the bike back in the garage when it happened.

Moments Before...

Dumbass Dan

Boy, that's a bummer. But let it be a lesson to ya. That's far too pretty a bike to trust not to fall over like that.

Thanks Chain, 'preciate that.

It occurred to me afterwards that had this been the Viffer I had before, or the 'Busa some schmuck here recommended - I wouldn't have been able to stop it's fall.

A motard, otoh, I could've sneezed at and kept it from falling over.

Cheers!
Dan

Bummer Blorton. No help here on replacement plastics though. However, that was a great "Busa Barb".

I always through a sinch strap on if I have to leave my bike leaning just in case. A few seconds go along way. Sorry to hear about that, bad way to end the season.

Re: Stupid Garage Oopsie, Need upper cowl and support

Well, I ordered the parts tonight, and it turns out there are "supercede" parts that are a little bit cheaper. Hopefully I'll have the bike back on the road in a couple of weeks. Not a season-ender for me, as I commute year-round on this thing.

Cheers!
Dan

Ronayers.com. ~$250 for the oem upper cowl. $330 total with frame support and misc. small parts.

I'm not sure I understand...Is this a race bike with no kickstand? Since you rode it into your garage I assume you were coming in off the street so it's a street bike. So why not use the kickstand?

Sorry to hear about your little (expensive) accident!!

When I want to put my bike up on the rear stand I stick 2 pieces of ¾” plywood under the side stand, I then line up the stand with the spools and up she goes.

Because I park it next to the cage and need it to be up as close to the wall as possible. But you're right - the kick stand would've saved me some dough.

Cheers!

Thats a good idea ... I have been having problems figuring out a way to get the RC up easily since my old bike had handles behind the seat that I always used for balance

Two pieces of ¾” plywood are pretty much perfect height to get my 954 level. If I find a spot in the garage that is not level I turn the wheel slightly the left. Also, when I let the bike down I pull on the tail section slightly to the left (side stand) just to be safe. I have never had a problem using this method.
