Re: MOST HORSEPOWER FOR THE BUCK

[Written somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but you gotta wonder...]

Technically, a TURBO may be the best power for the buck. If a full exhaust and a PCIII costs about a thousand bucks, and gets you 10 hp, that's $100 per pony. If a turbo costs $4000, and gets you 50 hp, it's $80 per horse, AND you've got five times as much additional power!

P.S. No, I don't endorse the use of a turbo on a bike like the 929, but hey - whatever gets you off...

Also, I'd second the vote for a Hindle (or a Micron) and a PCIII. A K&N filter won't add any HP, but will reduce your air filter replacement costs substantially. Cold air induction will get you a few extra horses at speed, although it'd be hard to prove on a dyno, but it's one of the cheapest (and cheesiest?) mods you can do.

Re: MOST HORSEPOWER FOR THE BUCK

The most acceleration (as opposed to hp) for the dollar is inarguably gearing. There have been some excellent articles in several of the various moto-rags on this subject the last many months...

Re: MOST HORSEPOWER FOR THE BUCK

i don't think turbo is just 80$ per ponny because your compression is all ready 11.3 or so and if you ad warm boosted air bang! detonation. unless the boost is so low then its not worth it. you would have to pull the slugs and drop the compression with new ones so time factors cost .... just my opinion

Re: MOST HORSEPOWER FOR THE BUCK

Save the money and put it towards trackdays so you can learn how to use the OEM hp best. Full Hindle/PC3 (with custom map) will reduce the on/off throttle lag if you want a great mod.

Not necessarily. You can put in a thicker head gasket, this is what they do for most turbo kits on bikes. But it would be better to do as you say and add some dished pistons.

To add 50 HP would not take much boost at all, 6 or 7 psi would probably get it.

I will build a turbo sportbike someday...

GSXR1000 at 6lbs boost?
Yowzers! $4300 for ~50hp $86 per horsey isn't too bad.

Two more pounds of boost added another 18 horsies.

Oh, and they've got a 929/954 kit.
Spend your money, NOW!

Don't look at the numbers they can make with the 'Busa.
Hint: keeping a stock of tires in the garage would be a good idea for anyone that does it.

While you are at it, get a big wing for the back and a huge exhaust pipe, that sounds like a$$

I recommend trying to fully use the first 130HP! Then worry about more.
