04 CBR 1000 wont start

Finally had a chance to look at my new bike. 04 1000rr w only 500 miles on it. Looks nice... but wont start.

Bike was a trade in at a car dealer ship and had shipped from South Dakota.

I contacted their rep and he said that he started it before it was shipped, and ran fine. (dam car salesmen)

Not sure if they drained the gas for shipping, but i put in about a gallon.

Bike turns over but wont catch. Does the 1000 have a fuel shut off some where? I looked in manual but didnt find any thing.

There is what looks like a prime bulb near the idle adjustment on the shifter side of the bike, this didnt appear to have fuel in it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

Did a quick glance through,
There is a bank angle sensor up front and a fuel cutoff relay but nothing else. I assume you are getting no codes so the other obvious thing is a kink in the fuel line. Sorry no other help from the manual that is easy to relay.

Good luck

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

There's a red switch on the right handlebar, make sure it's in the on position(I'm assuming you checked that). Can you hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key/turn the switch to the on position?

Never assume anything, always check for the obvious Since he didn't mention the fuel pump coming on, it couldn't hurt to ask

What is the condition of the battery? Less than fully charged may be causing it not to start, even if it's turning over.

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

That red button bit me twice and I have owned bikes for 12 years. It could be that lol. Other than that, there is no fuel prime bulb and no fuel cutoff switch. I am a bit lost without being there with a multimeter to see what it is doing.

I went to start up my ninja today to let it know I wasn't playing favorites and waited a few seconds after turning the key for the pump whine. Fifteen seconds later, I remembered it was an old carbureted dinosaur.

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

Don't laugh at the red switch. It got me a month after I had my bike. I took the entire fuel system apart including the fuel tank and fuel pump, tracing every wire down without a manual.

Thanks for your help guys.

Wasn't the red switch but close, The fuse for the fuel pump was removed apparently for shipping. I wasn't there when bike was delivered so no one told me.

Starts up and runs fine, sounds good even with stock exhaust.

Can't wait to try it out.

Thanks again,

Dave

I would never laugh at that kind of story. Remind me to tell you the one about the power window lockout switch on an s2000. On second thought please don't remind me to tell that one.
Congrats on the new bike.

Reminds me of the rear door safety lock feature on Yukons and my trip to the dealer to be told to RTFM...

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

Whats worse, not hitting the red button or not knowing why the bike keeps shutting off every time you go to put it in first

(with the kickstand down)?

Re: 04 CBR 1000 wont start

I guess I can fess up that when I first got my F2, it stalled out on me in the middle of an intersection at a green light. Couldn't get it to re-fire, had to push it into the gas station across the street. 15 min. later I found the kill switch in the off position
