Re: Suspension Question about preload?

Ok, lately I've thinking about suspension set ups and reading every post on every board I can find on the WEB. I'm basically new to the adjusting suspension thing, but I'm starting to go faster into the twisties and begining to notice a big difference in the feel of the 954.

I've set my suspension to the Sportbike Mag. setup and hit the twisties. I found that the front wanted to compress too much and it felt like the front wanted to washout.

I've read that the front spring on the 954 is too soft and should be replaced. That is not an option right now, maybe later. I've been running the front spring preload at one back from full hard. The bike 954 feels like a new bike. I have a lot more confidence in the 954 going into the corners. I'll be setting the sag on the 954 tomorrow.

The question is: Do you guys see any problems with running the preload so high on the front spring? Should I save my pennies and get some new springs/valves and have the forks rebuilt?

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Suspension Question about preload?

Don't know about your first question. I believe many people do run max preload up front so maybe they will chime in. I run mine just a 1/4 turn off of max.

Definitely save you pennies and get your forks resprung and revalved. Dan Kyle would probably be the most recommended for this. Difference between the stock forks and Dan Kyle forks are like night and day. I have no personal experience in this matter, just passing word from what others have said.
