Re: Advertised horsepower for standard 2003 954

The ownerlink site of Honda states that the bike produces 154bhp at 11,250 rpm and 76.6lb/ft of torques at 9000 rpm.

it also states that the bike weighs 370lbs but I do not believe that either.

bhp = brake horespower = power the engine makes

154bhp minus the standard 15% for drivetrain loss equals ~130rwhp (rear wheel horsepower)

Those numbers seem dead-on to me.

2002 CBR954RR

10.55 @ 133.8mph (bone-stock)
10.3 @ 137mph (-1 sprocket, front strapped)

Good point. You are correct. I assumed the 154 was the rear wheel power rating.

Re: Advertised horsepower for standard 2003 954

Mine made 131 -132 on the rolling road at the back wheel as standard. After my mods it now makes 150 at the back wheel. To be honest it only feels faster cos it makes more noise, but it will hold a new ZX12 with an exhaust to 165mph.

The 370lbs (168kg) weight is dry. No fuel, oil, coolant, fork oil - probably not even a battery. It's normal for manufacturers to state dry weight. Apart from BMW they all do it.

Still, the 954s dry weight is representative of its light real weight. Various magazines have weighed the 954 and confirmed its wet weight is around 434lb or 197kg which shows it still to be one of the lightest litre bikes ever (Sportrider even weighed one example at only 429lb).

By way of comparison: 1000RR - a porky 466lb (212kg), CBR600RR 445lb (202kg), '04 GSXR1000 443lb (201kg), '04 R1 450lb, (204.5kg), '04 ZX10 436lb (198kg).

(* figures from Sportrider)

Yup, the last true Fireblade is a hard act to follow. Well done Baba-san!

Mine has a real 150 at the back wheel and is a genuine 174 kilos with a tank of fuel (well about 2/3 a tank).

Yes - much modified.
