Re: bike won't start
I rode to work and home today just fine. I left to go for a ride, got stuck in traffic, went to the gas station to get gas. After filling up my bike wouldn't start, I was figuring it was because of the traffic and heat. Got it roll started and got home and it cut off again. I went to check the battery and the negative post was corroded that I couldn't get the screw off. I had to break the post to get it off, I checked it with a multimeter(before I destroyed it) and it was fine but it wouldn't start. I tried it with another battery and it still wouldn't start. I even hooked up a jump box with test leads and it still wouldn't start. The jump box was at full charge, so it would have started a car but it wouldn't start the bike. I replaced the regulator/rectifier about two months ago, could this be bad already. Oh yeah, I have a Hurricane. [B]PLEASE HELP.[B]

Re: bike won't start
I know this sounds strange, but how old is your air filter? I had a similar problem with my F2 once. The thing would not start until I replaced the air filter 'cuz it was so clogged with crap

Re: bike won't start
It's a K&N filter, and it's not bad.

Re: bike won't start
I'll try not to hijack your thread too much (maybe this will generate some ideas).
My cousin bought a new 954 ('02 model, but new from a dealer) last week and he's already having trouble with it not starting. He's having to charge the battery every other day. It sounds like the battery is not holding a charge, or maybe not getting properly charged. I told him to check the connections to make sure they're tight and clean (he said they were), and to take the battery out and test it. I can't think of anything that would drain the battery; it's not like you can accidentally leave your light on. Any ideas?

Re: bike won't start
I know that it may sound redundant--but keep your battery in as good a condition as you can. Do not ignore it like old carb equiped bikes. Fuel Injection bikes need a strong battery (min 11.9 volts) to keep the 'computer working'. No computer --no start, no run. Bad grounds work the same way in that they will effect the computer by making it think that it got turned of and on really quickly. (Just turn your PC on and off and see what happens). If you look at the battery
you will generally find a Yuasa YTZ10S. Honda specs this battery for the 929/954/F4i--and recommends a 'slow charge' at 1.5 amp max. Some dealers are killing this sealed battery by using 5/10 amp quick chargers--or are prepping the bike and letting it sit on the showroom floor with a charged battery. Depending when the bike gets sold, the battery could be on the way to going bad. Ask the dealer when they installed the battery before you roll out the door as the Honda warranty specifically excludes the battery.

Re: bike won't start
Sugoi8 is right, hook the bike up to a Battery Tender when you aren't using it. They actually make a quick disconnect for it now so you don't have to jack with the battery, just plug it in though the trunk of the bike.
There is an electrical system troubleshooting page in the service manual, perform this. And definitely check your R/R out, sounds like it is a possibility.
