Transmission PROBLEMS

Hi i own a 1996 CBR 900rr Fireblade and have just spent $2500 on rebuilding the bottom end because it had the common problem of slipping out of second gear (worn Dogs and Slots). I had all brand new gears two new shift forlks and also a new shift drum replaced.
I got my bike back and the blade was running fine, shifting very smooth. After a couple months of riding it didnt like shifting into second gear at high RPM, as it was due for an oil change i changed to oil and hopped that would have fixed the problem, But NO It has just got worse. please can anyone help me.

Re: Transmission PROBLEMS

I just replaced my 2nd gear myself. It was a lot of work, but I saved a lot of money and was able to ensure that the job was done right.

I would imagine that there were parts that were bent in the transmission that were not detected. It's easy too see if something is worn, but much harder to detect something bent. If a shop did the work, I would get them to check it under warrenty.

Here are some pix of my engine rebuild:

Re: Transmission PROBLEMS

Thanks for your help those pic's would have helped heaps.

I pulled apart the clutch hopeing it would be a problem on that side as i just run out of warrenty and YATZZEE. My shift selector shaft was slightly bent and had damaged the selector which moved the detent starr so i replaced the selector shaft myselfat a cost of AUD$54.00. Now the bike shifts like Butter.

I spoke to BILLS Motorcycles (HONDA) where i got it rebuilt and asked how it could have been caused they said " Its an old bike 10years just wear and tear" so i asked "if rebuilt a year ago a mechanic would have picked up the problem" Hondas said "YES" so they asked "where did i get it rebuilt" I replyed "BILLS MOTORCYCLES" then they were lost for words.

Thanks pal

Re: Transmission PROBLEMS

If your having trans shifting problems I would get ahold of paul gast from Fast by Gast he is in the buffalo,ny area My nephew had a f4i with trans problems and the dealer wanted some crazy money to fix it. He took it apart himself and sent the parts to paul they recut the dogs and moded a couple of other parts and the bike shifts way better than new. If you don't knlow him he used to run PRO Stock bike NHRA and supplies carbs and things to many guys www.fastbygast.com
total cost with one or 2 new parts was under 400us
the other thing you might is the best place I have found so far for parts is
Ron Ayers Motorsports - Motorycle, ATV, Jet Ski and Generators Parts and Accessories when it comes to price
