Chain slack...

Hey I have got a 2000 929 with a 520 conversion and Afam aluminum rear sprocket. The book says to adjust the chain so that it has a 1 9/16 to 2 inch play on the bottom of the swingarm in between the two sprockets. This seems a little excessive to me, I can actually see the droop in the chain a little bit with the bike sitting there on the side stand. What do you guys run your chains at for play? It seems like mine sounds too loose at this amount when I ride. Thanks

Re: Chain slack...

A smiling chain is a happy chain. Leave it loose. If you can see it dip down a little with the bike at rest, that is good. It will last a whole lot longer with 1.5+ inches of slack than it will with 1 inch of slack.

Re: Chain slack...

After you sit it on it, that slack is sucked up tight. 1.5 is the way to go.
