| full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? I've got 200 miles on my 2006 cbr1000rr during break in. I've accellerated 3/4 throttle up to about about 7500 rpm in second gear. What can I expect as far as wheel spin and wheelies when under full throttle accelleration in first, second, and third gears. I'm really curious to know. Thanks for the help! |

Please remember, don't talk about illegal activity (such as wheelies) on this site. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? The trick will be to roll on the throttle vs ham fisting it. Throttle control will minimize spin and wheelies while maximizing acceleration
Also since you asked I figure this is a new type of bike so as LTL says be careful. Wear great gear all the time and avoid riding with people that ride over their heads on public roads (everyone tends to follow stupid some )
Enjoy

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Wheel spin shouldn't be too much of a concern once the tires are warmed up and if the roads are dry. However, wheelies on the other hand will happen easily if you aren't careful, I found when I first got my bike the front end would lift at about 7k rpms and now that it's broken in it will lift the front end at 5k. But then again I'm 220lbs so if you are lighter it's gonna come up that much faster.
Be careful when you're banging the gears, I snapped 3rd after redlining 2nd and almost sh*t my pants cause the front tire was heading for the sky. On a closed course road....of course. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Expect severe problems keeping the front wheel down the first 130mph.
The heavier you are, the more weight will be levered over the rear axle: meaning more wheelies. Your center of gravity will be MUCH higher. |

cover the clutch cover the brake

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? yeah be careful if your cruising along at about 5,000 rpm in first and crack open the throttle it is facing the sky as with any 1000cc sportsbike you can clutch it up in almost any gear ... Be careful hate to see new blades go down ohh yeah it hurts too. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Wheelieville if you hammer it too hard, My 954 tries it in first and second all the time. And so no ones gets their knickers in a wad that's at the track. If you keep the front down then **** start's passin by so fast it looks plaid Now at this point in first gear you have probably exceeded the legal limit's for any surface road in the U.S. And are probably close to exceeding the highway speeds so get used to not whacking the throttle and short shifting. Otherwise you would again have done something illegal and could not talk about it here cause someone might get their panties in a wad. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Ive found my 06 cbr1000 to be very predictable, this is of course you are concentrating on what your doing,it will want to launch skyward if you take it 1st gear red line, then quick shift to 2nd,red line 3rd.......
If you dont concentrate and go red lining the thing every gear,i will predict your bike will be 70 ft in front of you (on its side and trashed ) as you pick yourself up from the road, actually you wont get a chance to get 2nd gear, you would be gone by 5000rpm.
Ride it smooth and they are very good predictable machines.
Hope it helps. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? If wheelies are illegal, then show me a state where first gear to red line is allowed. It's well over any speed limit.
If you are in closed area, then it's ok, but so are wheelies then too.(of course most race tracks don't like them) |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? I would not recommend rolling the throttle on too hard in first gear on a 1000RR. NOT A GOOD IDEA. My buddy has a 1000RR he pulls 2nd and 3rd gear power wheelies all day long. Even on my 929 first and second gear are power wheelies. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Hey i have the same bike and from all the bikes i ever drive until now, 2006 fireblade is the best. Easy to handle, good driving position, just try to be gentle with throttle and as smooth as you can. I would also advice you to be alerted on first gear riding. Sometimes you may end up looking the sky really fast. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? I know mine becomes a bird watcher with ease. Only on slicker/dustier asphalt type surfaces does traction become an issue. As several before me stated, never grab a handful until you are have acclimated yourself to the power. As far as I can tell you never become "used" to the power. Be wise to the laws in your area. |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? I'm in the same boat as you...390 miles on mine and haven't gone above 9K yet. I've had a 929 and 954 and they sure as hell wouldn't power wheelie 2nd. In fact I geared it to a 15T front and it was still hard to get it to power up 2nd. Maybe I had 2 weak bikes but I would just clutch it up. As for my 1K I've already found it will power 2nd at about 5500 rpms and that's with only 300 miles on it. I'm changing the oil tonight at the 400 mile mark and then I'm going to let it rip!!! |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Well I just got back after changing my oil and I did a roll from about 50 in 1st up through 135 and I must admit that this bike has a very smooth power delivery. I didn't notice any power spikes on the way to redline in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, just a smooth power delivery...it's deceptively fast! |

| Re: full throttle in first and second gear...what to expect? Only 200 miles and you ride it that hard?! This is a major reason why if i buy a newish/newer bike it WILL be new off the showroom floor. Can't trust people and how they "break in" an engine. Pretty soon Honda will quit honoring warranties on new bikes because of people like this.
Now your bike will never have it's full potential power because you didn't break it in correctly. |
