CRB 954 MODS?

I just bought a 2003 cbr 954 and i am wondering what are some of the best mods to put on it? It already has a full D&D exhaust and im wondering what else i should do?

Re: CRB 954 MODS?

Are you wanting cosmetic or performance?

Most people are pretty big on getting the Power Commander and a good custom map. You should even be able to custom tune it for the D&D exhaust you have. You could do a sprocket conversion, but that depends on your preference.

Cosmetic may be tinted windscreen, undertail, etc.

Re: CRB 954 MODS?

Do a sprocket/chain mod to (-1,+1) which would be a 15/44 set-up. Its the best mod you can do for the 929/954 IMO. You will get more and feel more from this mod that you will from spending money on a power commander.

Yes, you will feel more of a diffrence with the new gearing. With the PC you might notice a slightly smoother throttle, but as far as HP gains you wont notice any with stock exhaust. And, with a full system you might notice a gain but with any full system your major HP gains wont be until about 7k up to redline. Peronally, I dont' know too many guys that ride around with their bikes at 8-9k rpm (unless your riding twisties or on a 600cc bike) but were talking about the 929.
Gearing on the other hand will change the bike acceleration and torque from the begining all the way to the redline.

If your tight on cash, I would go with the gearing first. You'll get more bang for your buck with gearing than you will with the PCIIIusb. Not to say never get a PCIIIusb, but if I had to do it over again I would have gone with my gearing first.

Re: CRB 954 MODS?

from my seat of the pants dyno my Sato system made more power everywhere over the stock system. and after tuning made more power everywhere. I used to think the bike was pretty smooth before but after the tune it was a big difference. there's a little stumble below3k but I'm only there when going from a stop.

that said gearing will give a better bang for the buck. figure $200 for a complete 520 conversion with gearing of your choice vs about $975 I spent on the exhaust, pc3 and tuning. got the system used and a deal on the tuning. regular pricing on it would have been around $1800.

Re: CRB 954 MODS?

Hi, Apologies to butt in on this discussion but it's my first post. I have a CBR 954 '02 Fireblade which I purchased from a friend some months ago, runs great and is a lot stronger mid-range than my previous bike, a GSX-R750. I live in Dublin, Ireland and love riding our mix of roads, just like the TT in the IoM. Visited California last month, second time in the past year, love the place. I have one problem with the 954, when I start it I get a tappet/cam rattle for about a minute until the oil works up into the head, then all is quiet.
Is this normal? The bike has about 17,000 miles up. Do I need to replace anything? Thanks.

Yeah, the tapping you are describing is normal. Mine does the same thing, and other 954 owners report similar experiences. Threadjack over...

Best bang for the buck is dropping one tooth on the front sprocket. Next best is a full Hindle system. After that you are going to want a damper.

I bought the steering Dampner seperate from the Mount KIT off E-BAY, Then I Bought a ** HARRIS MOUNT KIT ** From Euro Part's . The Dampner By it's self was $110.00 USD on E-Bay and the Mount kit was $ 160.00 USD.

Re: CRB 954 MODS?

Watch buying the used damper due to they might need rebuilding. So if you go down 1 in the front can you use stock chain without having negative effects?

Thanks for the info, I'll maybe try a different oil at the next change, a Honda guy in the Uk said it might make a difference.

Maybe a little more wear on the chain, but nothing I have noticed.
