Re: My friends stock Gixxer 750 dug me in a race

I have a 2003 CBR 954. The only performance mod I have is an Indigo high mount half system. Don't get me wrong my bike is sick fast, under approximately 115-120 mph. As soon as I approach 130-135ish my bike seems to loose a little. I know this is normal as the bike is going faster, but how is that my friends bone stock 2002 GSXR 750 can pull me and pass me rather convincingly at those speeds. Is my bike a dud, or is honda's forte' not in top speed but faster lap times. Don't get me wrong the bike is fast enough for me being that it is my first sport bike and how fast can you really go on the street? He does however weigh 30lbs less. Could the exhaust possibly have made me loose power since I have yet to get a power commander? But if anything the exhaust should help the top end. I don't know this scenario has me frustrated especially since I was talking all kinds of trash saying he should have gotten a 1 liter. Well I guess he showed me.

Re: My friends stock Gixxer 750 dug me in a race

I ride with a group of guys with a lot of different bikes and I weigh less then all but one of them. My bike is totally stock and I can pull the guys with full systems on other 954's. One guy that was on a 2003 gsxr750 weighed all of 120lbs and I was about equal with him. Once you hit about 135 I think it becomes more of a fight against the wind then weight though. Maybe you should swap bikes and try the same run. Be safe.

Obviously the 750 is superior. Sell your 954 immediately and buy a gixxer 1000.

Well I am 6' 2' and he is like 5'8'. That and I am a new rider. I have all of about 500 miles experience on these things. However I used to race motocross so I am getting the hang of things quickly. already practicing my stand ups.

If you only have 500 miles on the clock of that bike, you should not be going 130mph.

Do you have a power commander? If you don't, that might explain the power loss at the top. My bone stock 929 would not get slower at the top, instead get faster.

As far as the stand-ups go....I hope you have the common sense to do it in a closed off area, and not on the street.

Re: My friends stock Gixxer 750 dug me in a race

I have good experience with 'break them in like you are going to ride it' method. Not to mention I only plan on putting on approx. 10,000 miles on it before I go out and get a new 05'. I figure then I can get a new designed bike with the bugs of the first year being worked out. The new 1 liter bike are looking good. Like the projector headlights on the R1, the HESD on the cbr, and the slipper clutch on the Kawi. Going to make it a hard choice. My only question is what is up with the suzuki's. Talk about an archaic design.

This is probably why you lost. Drag racing is not as simple as it seems,

Standing up is a bad tactic for drag racing.. try riding the bike the way it was designed to be ridden and you might spank the Smokzuki.

It could be the spinners too.. put the stock wheels back on.

Re: My friends stock Gixxer 750 dug me in a race

Well now why didn't I think of that Holeshot, I just making reference to the fact that I am not your typical inexperienced rider, and that if I am in fact not quiet as skilled as going through the gears at full throttle as my more experienced friend, it would have been real minimal. So in other words I was figuring my 200+ cc's plus my exhaust should have been more than enough to compensate for driver error, which mind you is extremely minimal.

I was not talking about breakin, I was talking about your own safety. You said yourself that you're a new rider, therefore I(and I'm sure many others here) came to the conclusion that you have absolutely no idea about the can of whoopa$$ that bike can open on you.

Let me guess, you're too cool to wear a helmet and leathers too. Gotta show off all yo skillz fo da ladiez

If you're gonna dragrace, take it to a dragstrip. Have the common sense to keep it off the streets for Pete's sake before you hurt yourself or somebody else. There's already too many idiots giving sport bikes a bad name, have some common sense, will ya?

What a bunch of pansies on this board, dude, just save your money on gear, get you some chrome flip-flops, a t-shirt, and some shorts, then go practice wheelies during rush hour and drag race through school zones
