954 probs

I purchased the 954 about 2 weeks ago. I just got a chance to open it up today. Around 90 MPH the thing feels like its bouncing off of the ground bad. In the front anyway.. The wheels are in balance, made sure of that on the front and the rear at the local cycle gear. What else can be the problem? Never had a prob like this one before.

Set all the suspension settings back to standard, sounds like its been fiddled with.

I got them all set back to standard after the first fairly high speed ride. Still the same problem though. It is baffling me hard.

You should check your wheel bearings & head bearings, if your sure the wheel is balanced. Tyre's in good condition? Fork seals ok? Discs ok, not warped at all?

You could try dialing in so extra damping on the forks... Or start from scratch with suspension setup

Steering head bearings, improper suspension setup or worn out, and your tire pressures are all possibilities. The 954 is a few years old now. They are going to require maintenance.

Tyres i am running the pilot 2CT's. 28 in the front and 28 in the rear. The wheels are in balance, that was checked at cycle gear. Took the bike into honda and they proceeded to check the bearings and brakes and all. Everything was fine. Now i am going to try and work with the suspension again.

Well your tyre pressures are FAR too low!!! It must feel very strange

I use the Honda recommended 42 rear and 36 front on the road with whatever tyres i have fitted.

On the track I use 34 rear and 32 front.

With these pressures, i have NEVER had any issues.

Yeah those tire pressures might be your problem. Jack those babies up to at least 34 or go with the recommended 42-36.

Yea the 28lbs of pressure is quite low. Your steering is going to feel off with that. Guys at the track dont even run that low of pressure. I usually put in about 34/34 and drop it to 32/32 for canyon runs. 34/34 is still a bit low. Mileage and tire longevity are better with it at the high 30s. I dont think I would run a sportbike's tires in the 40s though. I know others have and will, but that seems a bit high to me. 20s on the other hand is too low.

i run mine at 36 front and 38 on the rear.
geeez with it at 28 you must be finding it a little hard getting round cnrs.

I run almost the same on all of my bikes. I havent had any issues on any. The954 i believe just has a prob somewhere that noone has been able to pinpoint yet. In the winter time i do up the pressure in my tires quite a bit, but that is because the road surface isnt hot like in the summer.

My bikes are completely reliable round the corners. Turn in is a little slower on the cold tires, but once heated the pressures rise and it tracks very good and is really stable.

The pressures might rise when warm but not enough to be within range. There is no point in running that low, unless you like to buy tires more often than you need to.
