You can also try Redline Water Wetter and water. That should help too......but you do have a bigger cooling problem that needs to be addressed. |

The directions are in the service manual. If you want to play it safe and want to skip the test, just buy a thermostat and replace the old one.

I think Ill drain the system and start from there, test the thermo etc...etc...
Can anyone tell me the best way to drain and refill, I dont have a service manual , I do know what needs to be done but not the best way about it on the 929. I'm sure you guys can help with that?? |

| Re: 929 overheating Use an Etilin glicol anti freeze.
Don´t forget, the thermostat should open at 80 ºC and must be fully opened at 85 ºC. |

| Re: 929 overheating Ethylene Glycol is not needed, but is recommended to keep your seals lubricated. As you are in Dubai, it's never going to freeze there, so why would you need a 100% anti freeze solution? LOL!
Redline Water Wetter, plus water (distilled if possible) and 15% ethylene glycol antifreeze should do the trick. Mix it all in a bucket first before you add it to the bike.
Re filling the bike. I drain it from the plug at the water pump, replace the plug, and when filling, I slowly fill the system up until it is full (use a funnel). Keep the bike level the whole time here, not on it's center stand.
When it's full, I leave the cap off and start the bike. Then I let the bike warm up. You'll see the level rise somewhat, and you may get some bubbles. This is normal. I blip the throttle about 10 times (5 second break between blips) to help dislodge the bubbles. When the level rises so that it looks like it's going to overflow out of the cap, put the cap back on.
Also make sure that your coolant reservoir is filled to the appropriate level.
And that's it. |

| Re: 929 overheating You're welcome!
If you can't buy Water Wetter in Dubai, it's perfectly ok to use 100% anti freeze (ethylene glycol) in your bike. You can buy it pre-mixed which makes things easier.
And when I said to blip the throttle, you can also rev the bike to 3000rpm and keep it there for 5 seconds, then go back to idle. You might also lose some coolant out of the radiator filler, but that's ok. You can top that up.
It's more important to get all the bubbles out of the system! If you have to lose some coolant to achieve that, then so be it. You can always put an old bath towel under the radiator to catch the overflow.
Cheers,
Sime |

| Re: 929 overheating Guys (and Gals?) I’ve just noticed that its losing water? It seems it was initially from the radiator cap, as there are brown stains on the side of the radiator so I watched it when it was hot. Now if you look at the overflow tank it is green with antifreeze, yet looking in the radiator its brown and no sign of antifreeze green? I replaced the radiator cap and now it doesn’t leak from there (I think) I did clean it up and there are no more signs. All seemed ok for a week (temp stayed around 110C Max even around town)then suddenly its getting hotter again. Checked the radiator and the water level had dropped and I had to put in another lite of water? still no sign of the green anti freeze yet the overflow tank is pure green? any suggestions? could it be a leaking head gasket? if so what are the telltale signs? The engine is running smooth and no odd smells or smoke from the exhaust? |

| Re: 929 overheating Did you burp the system and check for proper operation of the thermostat?
BTW, when you said you added another litre of water, was it straight water? If so, then the temp will definitely rise, because water has a lower boiling point that anti freeze mix or Redline Water Wetter.
You should NEVER run your bike with straight water. Even when topping it up, you should use distilled water...but you either want Water Wetter in there or at least 15% antifreeze.
Cheers,
Sime |

| Re: 929 overheating Stripped the system down and found out that the guy that had it before me decided it was a good idea to put some radiator sealer in (pillock). It had blocked the overflow pipe on the bottle and the radiator was heating up and blowing out of the radiator cap. Also because the overflow bottle pipe was blocked it wasn’t refilling with water as the bike needed it. Hence the loss of coolant Flushed cleaned, rebuilt tested. Cant get water wetter out here so mixed softwater with Glycol 50/50. Cool. Cheers Sime Stay rubber side up |
