05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP!

| 05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP! hey guys i was riding to work this morning, and i was sitting at about 6000rpm and as i was feathering the throttle, the bike seemed to 'lurch' for a bout 1 sec, then all was fine.. now when i say lurch, i would refer to it as that feeling u get when the bike runs out of fuel and the bike feels starved of petrol.. rode home this arvo with no worries.. went out a coupla hrs later, and on returning home, was riding pretty cruisey at about 4500rom and then the bike did the same thing as above, and then it dropped a cylinder.. sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders, and had a huge loss in power.. i was about 4km away from home, and thought i'd just nurse it home... the whole way back, it kinda just prodded along, and felt like it wasn't firing properly, then it slowly just kinda went away... got home, and bike seemed fine.. there's a few weeks left on the warranty, and would definitely like to utilise it if i need to... it's pretty stock, i've only got a PCIII, and a yoshi slip on.. i had the stator replaced about 3 months ago and bought it off a mate about 5 months ago.. i don't believe it would be related to that..? guys n gals, do any of these symptoms seem familiar to you at all? i'm really not too sure , but may suspect it has something to do with the fuelling or spark.. would there be any obvious signs that would indicate what could be wrong? PLS HELP!!! thanks.. (i've searched the forum, but nothing really came up) |

But since there is a warrant left on the bike, i guess the first and easy thing to do is to take it to a goo shop near you. |

You could spend countless hours on trying to diagnose the problem, or take it to the expert mechanics who, for free mind you, will fix it themselves and fix it right.
Now, if it were out of warranty, the first place I would look to is your plugs. But screw that, just take it to the shop and let them deal with it.  |

| Re: 05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP! Mine did EXACTLY the same thing. Turns out that it was only a spark plug connector that had rattled loose and then fell off completely. Clipped it back on and it runs like new. Could be that simple but if it is in warranty have them figure it out.

PLS HELP! sweet, thank for the advice guys.. i spoke to the mechanic, and he reckons it was prolly **** fuel..? he reckons i should ride that out, and go back to normal unleaded.. will try that i guess, and keep you guys posted.. i'd assume this question has been asked a TRILLION times before, but what fuel does everyone run? In Australia, out of the choices we've got, i would only either run Mobil Vortex or BP Ultimate.. althought lately, Ultimate seems pretty ****... (only pulling about 175k's before the light comes on - used to pull 210 easy..) |

| Re: 05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP! took it back to HONDA, and they said that the sparks had fouled due to me running premium fuel... and it is not repaired under warranty... is that bullshit or wot?
there is a fkn sticker clearly next to the tank saying to run premium fkn fuel!!
they reckon i'm better off running regular unleaded from now on, and i shouldn't have a problem..
has anyone else had this problem? and what did you do about it?

| Re: 05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP! the premium fuel they refer to should be 95 octane +.. i was running BP Ultimate, which is rated at 98 RON..
the knts at honda said to run regular unleaded, even though it's rate at 91 RON, but they said that the bike will run fine, and not have any probs..
yeh, that's what i thought too..
if the manufacturers recommendation is to run preimuim fuel, it'd be safe to say that running fuel with a higher octane rating, shouldn't cause any probs at all? |

| Re: 05 1000RR dropping a cylinder? PLS HELP! I'd contact Honda, not the dealer and let them know what the dealer is recomending, also see if they will help out with the diagnostic and repair fees. Your bike shouldn't be fouling plugs from running high octane pump gas.BS |
