| Grip removal LH clip on Hi can anyone help with this,
Has anyone removed the LH grip from the clip on without wrecking it and then reused it? If so how did you do it?
Cheers

| Re: Grip removal LH clip on I actually cut mine off with a razor blade. The reason was because it was worn out. Wasn't worth replacing. They only cost about $7 to replace for OEM, or you could get the really nice Renthal ones. Don't bother trying to reuse the old one. Just replace it.
You can use Scott's Grip Stick to fit the new one. Clean the old adhesive off the bar, and then coat the clip on and the inside of the new grip with the Grip Stick (it's a contact cement). You then push the grip on the end and whack it hard with your palm to get it on..........you have to do this process fairly quickly (within 20-30 seconds).

| Re: Grip removal LH clip on I've taken several off. If you work it back and forth a little you can break any glue or adhesive that might be holding it. Then bit-by-bit twist, push, and pull it off. Its a tedious process, but it works. You can also get it partially off by rolling it down like a sock.
If you have compressed air that works best. First twist it back and forth to get any adhesive broken lose. Then on what would be the open end of the grip or the "mouth" (the end that goes on first) pull it up a little and blow some compressed air inside it. This will expand it just enough to slide it off while blowing air into it. |

Sime | I'll try the tip of the compressed air first, as i quite like the standard Honda grips. If that goes tits up then i'll get some Renthal ones.
Of subject, are your Targa mirrors plain black or carbon. It's just their web site only appears to have pictures of carbon look ones?
Cheers

I've also used a screwdriver to slowly work the grip off as I spin it on the inside of the grip/outside of the bar. This doesnt work as well on newer bikes though.
Oh and when you're ready to slip the grips back on.... spray some hairspray on the inside of the grip and on the bar.... it will go on like butter and dry quick.

-jh | Thanks for mentioning the hairspray. I did that in the 1970's and wondered if it still worked

| Re: Grip removal LH clip on If your in a pinch and don't have compressed air. Contact cleaner (PJ1 or similar) works like a charm. Just stick the hose in between the grip and the bar and give it a little squirt. The grip will slide right off, and when the cleaner dries you can install the grip on the new bar with no problems. |

Simon | Oh, I do like the standard Honda ones too. That's what I replaced mine with. They don't cost much at all.
The mirrors are the plain black ones. I don't like that chintzy 'faux' carbon fibre look at all (I'm stuck with it on my turn signals though but that's all I could get a hold of. I will be painting them black when I get some time!)
Cheers,
