One quote: "The Honda's new shorter stroke engine is an epic powerhouse."
To sum it up, the Blade's engine is so good (the best) in the mid range, in combination with the low wet weight, that the top end of the Kawi and Suzuki is no advantage. According to the article the power rankings are as follows:
Kawasaki - 170.97/80.24
Suzuki - 167.39/79.26
Honda - 162.29/78.79
Yamaha - 161.02/78.70
Out of 7 measured catagories the Honda took 1st in top gear roll on 40-120, 0-100, 0-170 and 1/4 mi. Second in 0-60 and 70-0. Fourth in top speed 5 mph off the winning R1 that posted 184.01 mph (this does seem counterintuitive as the R1 has the lowest peak hp).

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Next week im gonna find out how much better the new RR really is.. According to Sport rider magazine the number on the 06/07 are as follows..
CBR1000RR ('06) 158.8 @ 11,500 79.6 @ 8750
CBR1000RR (08) 162.8 @ 12,000 78.79 @ 8250
Quarter mile times..
CBR1000RR ('06) 9.898 @ 146.47
CBR1000RR ('08) 10.32 @ 149.37
Im just confused why the 06 has more torque and is quicker in the 1/4 mile.. Im not sure the MCN test was with top notch riders.. Im sure the new RR is better but in two weeks when I get mine Im going to the track and see how much better..

Are we only two weeks out from general availability in the States? My dealer doesn't seem to know much; will only say sometime in March. In the meantime, the ZX-14 that's currently in stock is looking better the warmer the weather gets... |

There is never going to be a set of completely definitive numbers. The best we can do is take an average of all the comparos. |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade 160 bhp at the rear wheel is about right - see below, which comes from the 'Motorcyclist Magazine' performance data section.
Still looking for info from anybody out there regarding US availability on the '08 CBR1000. I know they're starting to appear in South Africa, but that's a bit of a drive for me
Any dealers out there with the inside scoop? Where are these things? In Japan? On a boat? In a US port? |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade While I agree mostly on that.. My 07 was 154 and some change on the dyno. And after the mods it was 167rwhp.. Im not saying it is faster but those numbers came from sport rider magazine.. I know alot of 06/07 RR that can turn sub 10 sec 1/4 miles.. But I agree all around the new RR is better.. Im just not sure its worlds better.. I will be finding out in 2 weeks.. I must say that sportrider is pretty respectable magazine.. Im also sure you read where the new RR also finished 3rd behind the ZX10R and the GSXR in lap times with different more experienced riders during the MCN testing.. I need to see more shootouts.. There is never going to be a set of completely definitive numbers. The best we can do is take an average of all the comparos. | Different dynos...different elevations, atmospheric conditions, temp, etc...you can run the same bike on different dynos and get different results. As far as quater mile its also the same thing...how sticky is the track? Is the track elevation 5000ft above sea level. I usually dont compare test results from one mag to another, I rather use a relative comparison. Such as if one mag says the Kawi makes 170 and the Honda makes 162, and another says the Kawi makes 175 and the Honda makes 167 (just making these numbers up), I know that the Kawi makes more horsepower. For dyno results that mean much to me I would take my bike to my local dyno and do a test there. Its all really relative. |
