Rear tire limit...

I'm buying tires for my 2006 CBR 600. This might be a stupid question but, what is widest tire that will fit on my bike. Should I stick with the stock tire size? what are the pros and cons?

Hell, the widest tire is whatever you want and what you're willing to go through to put it on (new swingarm). what are you tryin to do with the bike (drag, roadcourse, or commute). I would stick with the stock size tire. You could go with a 190 easily i believe. But ur lookin at a bit more cash, and really nothin else. Alot of people say u get more traction, but can u use it is the question. Bigger footprint in the rain maybe, but not by much at all.

Re: Rear tire limit...

Basically what rokitt said but by putting a 190 on a 5.5 inch rim you change the profile of the tire. The front and rear tires have profiles that are meant to work together. If you change the profile of the rear tire things can get a little wonky. Some have done it and claim they like it. Independent tests have never been favorable. Putting a 190 on a 5.5 in rim isn't going to make it look much wider anyway because it just kind of balloons it out.

If it has wheels, I've crashed it, and some things that don't razor scooter, skate board, roller skates, roller blades, skis, snowmobile, card board box on stairs, giant inner tube, nissan sentra, dirtbike, lawn tractor (wheelied it over), grandmas bread tray on stairs, kayak, canoe, rubber raft, bicycle, wake board, kneeboard, waterskis, tobaggan (plowed a pine tree), horses, ATV's

Re: Rear tire limit...

I believe you can fit a 200 if the swingarm will allow it. However realize even a 190 rear is going to make the bike turn slower unless you get someone that knows what they are doing to set it up right. Its purely a looks mod, and actually hurts the handling.

Re: Rear tire limit...

A few years ago there was a competition over here of who could fit the biggest size tyre on the rear it went from mild to plain stupid. You asked for pros and cons , the main pro would be it would look cool to your mates . The biggest con is when it pops of the rim while your riding and you crash, then your insurance company tell you that you can't claim because its your fault as you made the bike dangerous to ride in the first place by fitting over size tyres.

Re: Rear tire limit...

I had a 190 on my 03 600RR and it sucked. When I changed back to a 180 I had much more flickability. Basically it isn't designed at all for a 190 and you are going against all the principles by going larger.

Re: Rear tire limit...

Thanks a lot for the info! I'm going to stick with the stock size especially if it's going to screw with the handling. Thats one thing I like about my 600.

wouldn't a larger rear make the stearing quicker in terms of suspension set-up?
