Caliper Torx torque setting

hi all.

just new to the forum today. looks like a good site you have going here .

i have to admit, i dont actually have a honda fireblade. i own a 1995 honda rvf400. though i have been upgrading the handling of the bike. started off with the braided hoses, new springs in front forks, nitron track shock, raised the rear rideheight 30mm and lowered forks through yokes 5mm.

have finally got round to a proper upgrade of the brakes. i am sticking on a pair of 1998 CBR900RRW calipers. i am currently rebuilding them before sticking them on bike. i have came across a problem though, i have no idea of the correct Torque setting for the Torx bolts to reassemble the caliper halves. i would be grateful if someone could let me know the setting?

in the mean time i will get some pics of the bike posted for you later.

many thanks
david

According to my 929rr book, it is 16ft lbs. Yours would be slightly older, but where it is two metal halves, if you were off a little, as long as it's tigh I'm sure your good.

Re: Caliper Torx torque setting

ta. i have split the caliper halfs to take out the pistons, clean them and stick new seals in. the torx bolts that join the caliper halves is an M8 x 1.25(by the looks of things). i just want to be on the safe side with the brakes. its the type of thing i wont take a risk on with torque settings. other places you can happily get away with not bothering.

my RVF torx bolts on calipers have a setting of 33Nm, however haynes general maintainance manual reccomends 22-28Nm for this type o bolt. i know it sounds a bit anal to get the exact setting for these brakes, but hell, i wont be rebuilding them again for a couple o years yet, so it leaves time for bits to shake themselves loose.

Re: Caliper Torx torque setting

My 954 Blade is 30Nm per bolt. I'd use that with a thread locking agent (TipEx is good seriously) & you'll be grand.

Re: Caliper Torx torque setting

thanks for all help and advice. got the exact torque value from the manual i found online.

turns out it is only 23Nm.
thought it would be much tighter.

am prepping bike for MOT at end of week, so will get some good pictures of a nice shiney NC35 with blade calipers on
