If you do decide to give it a go splatty, then I know of a good place in Coventry that only charges £20 per wheel to shotblast and powdercoat them, I would recommend him 100% he has done a few things for me including my bikes rearsets, pillion pegs, exhaust cover and also my daughters cycle frame, let me know if you want his details.

Fun project... Got a great deal on the bike. The salvage co pulled the front cowl off to sell the meter separately (tried to rip me off), I could tell this was the case since there was very little damage to the front. They also (unknowingly) pulled off the tip over sensor since it is attached to the front cowl. They told me the bike cranks but does not start. I told them probably will need to replace the engine. I got an additional $1000 off the price. Got it home, twisted the #1/#3 wires together. Hit the starter and she started right up. The whole build is documented here. http://www.***********/forums/showthread.php?t=63451 |

I see I cannot reference another forum. If anyone is interested, I can copy over all of the text and photos since I have documented the entire build.
Let me know if that is Kosher. Thanks,

Nice. Did it already have the brackets fitted to it so you can attach the front brake line's T-pieces to it?

Nope the new CF Mudguard had all the thread and bolt holes already in place, just a case of unbolting the lines (keeping the bolts) sliding the new one in place and redoing the blots up again.
The only issue is its a very tight fit and the thread could potentially scratch the inside of the forks (Hence in the install instructions, it says to cover with tape)

You are already most of the way there (in terms of expense!) with your seat cowl. Only other changes are rear peg removal (2 - 3 hour job unfortunately) and removal of tail tidy & indicators. As you can see on mine, the mirrors with front indicators are gone too.
I mounted the rear plate using a couple of half inch wide aluminium strips, drilled for the 4 fixings.
I don't have indicators or mirrors and don't carry pillions. For the MOT you don't need indicators if it is a single seat motorcycle and doesn't have an indicator switch (haven't removed that yet though ), but legally i am not sure....
Good luck

cheers and looks good to me - forecast is wet tomorrow so am planning on spending the day in the garage - rear peg removal is #1 on the list - will split the rear subframe in two hopefully to make it easier as per other posts. I have fitted an R & G tail tidy but it's a bit big so it may be going on e-bay soon....

I fitted the R&G tail tidy too, then junked it......
Yes, split the subframe. There is also one very very awkward screw / bolt to get to, which is under the riders seat in between all the electric gubbins. The simplest way to reach it is to drill a very neat 6mm hole in the plastic tray, which you will never see. It was a while ago that I did mine so sorry I can't be more specific. It is mentioned on 1 or 2 of the forum guides for the peg removal and believe me you will know which one it is when you get to it!!
Weather not too bad tomorrow if you like slipping around on wet leaves |

phew - spent a good 2 hours removing pegs - all done now and not too difficult - could probably halve the time to get them back on.
I loosened the two central bolts connecting the rear end to the main frame to give more room but didn't realise the lower one had a nut at the back which fell off deep into the depths of the frame/exhaust - great. Anyway can't find it so will get another nut this week and then will be back on the road.

The same thing happened to me and I eventually found it resting on part of the exhaust that wasn't visible from the outside. I fitted the Sato Street Hooks so I can easily put the pegs on if needs be. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...t_hooks_03.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...t_hooks_01.jpg |

I bought the Puig clear windscreen for my '08 1000RR and it's a definite improvement over the stock shield.

I put a color coded candy red Hotbodies Hugger on my bike and it looks pretty good, not perfect but close enough plus I like the additional coverage over the rear wheel to keep the underside of the tail clean as it's painted.
Originally Posted by wblamb The hugger is Hotbodies. The color matches pretty well in daylight, but it isn't even close in artificial light. It doesn't fit over the tire evenly from the rear view. I want to replace it with the Blk Honda euro hugger.
I thought about painting the rest of the exhaust, but the paint I used is semi-gloss, and I thought it would bring out the irregularities of the factory exhaust. | |
