EBC HH pads on a 929, more noise than OE Honda?

Hi guys,

Yesterday I installed a set of EBC's HH brake pads on my 929, replacing the original Honda pads, and I've noticed that they make far more brake noise.

The best way to describe the noise is kind of like riding a bicycle and then freewheeling (stop peddling)...its the same sort of noise the bicycle chain does when you're freewheeling. is this normal?

Also, how long do the pads take to bed into the rotor? I've only been on a short trip and although it took a few miles for them to actually start *working*, they don't yet feel that much better than the original pads.

I use the same brake pads but i have ebc rotors also on a 954 and never heard that noise maybe take them off and see what they look like. make sure everything is in proper.

the sound is normal. it almost sounds like an electronic buzzing sound that winds down as you slow down. i've had it from day one of installing those pads.

Re: EBC HH pads on a 929, more noise than OE Honda?

I thought it might be normal because I remember a similar sound when I had my Aprilia RS125 on stock pads....oddly when I put some EBC HH in the sound was gone! I guess it depends on the type of caliper/rotor.

How long do these EBC HH pads take to bed in properly? So far they're about the same as the stock pads.

I had the exact same sound, whine, on my 954 from the ebc pads on stock rotors. trust me, the sound won't be going away!! that's why when it was time finally for new pads i went back to Honda oem brake pads and the sound was gone. plan on living with the sound for as long as you have the ebc pads. the sounds usually does not start until the pads are warmed up. once warm, the sound remains. at least thats how it did on mine. i don't believe there's anything bad about the sound, i would imagine its simply the type of material being used in ebc pads.

I had the same sound with Galfer HH pads. not sure if I just stopped noticing it or if it went away. I think its just something with HH pads and the stock 929/954 rotors.

Re: EBC HH pads on a 929, more noise than OE Honda?

I just put some HH pads on the 954. Did about 100Kms until the buzzing was too annoying. Did some surfing and came across the same symptoms with a guy's intruder. The theory was air in the cross drilled holes in the rotor heats up when it passes between the pads, creating the buzzing sound. The solution was to cut slots across the pad to make them look like the stock pads, and give the air somewhere to vent.

Not one to dismiss a crazy theory I gave it a try. I cut three slots across the face of the pad, with a hacksaw, to match the wear indicators of the stock pads. To my surprise, no more buzzing sound. I'm guessing the warranty is voided, but I can live with that.

Thanks guys!

How long do these HH pads normally take to bed into the rotors?

exact same issue for me. Having never had them before thought it was my bearing on the way. Double check the brake fluids not overfilled as might increase the noise as pads cant back off as far.

how can you give a break in time for brakes in miles? you can ride 1000 miles and not have them bedded in or you can ride 10 miles and have them bedded in. all depends on how much you use the brakes, not how far you've gone.

sorry to disappoint cbr929re just an average given by EBC. This figure is just to notify the rider to not expect full braking potential and to ride cautiously on fresh pads for an average 250 miles.

yeah but its really just a bs number. I mean think about it, it makes no sense. you can bed in a pair in 1 lap on the track and you can not bed them in doing 250 miles of highway riding.

good call I agree 100 percent. Package should read be cautious, full breaking potential not attained until pads are fully bedded to rotor.
