Buying bike out of state???

Well guys I'm not having much luck finding a 954RR or a RC51 in the state of Michigan, or at least not one that I think is worth the money. How many of you have purchased bikes out of state? What steps did you take to protect yourself? Just curious my R6 is being picked up this week and I didn't expect it to be this hard to find another bike when it came time to hop on the Honda bandwagon.

Re: Buying bike out of state???

I shop with the bordering states because it keeps the cost down as far as travel goes. I like to be able to see what i am getting and sometimes even test ride. Branch out farther if you have friends in the further states that know something about bikes, and the area. I have paid one guy to take the bike to his local shop and have them do a check, that i paid for. Just make sure that they verify the VIN of the bike that they check.

Re: Buying bike out of state???

Slightly off topic.. kinda.. I took a 8 hour trip for my 929 just recently. Just on other side of NY state, not out of state.. I drove there with a few friends and a hitch with a Uhaul trailer or Bike trailer for $19.99+ whatever else they stick you with on fee/tax. I road it back a few hours, trailer'd it the rest way home. It was a nice boy's day out on the road, ROAD TRIP!!

I have heard about some people paying for it to get delivered via tractor trailer with a delivery company. Like $675ish to your door step. Paying for the by Paypal or what ever. And like Rokitt51 mentioned, can pay a bike shop to inspect and set up pick up for bike transportation company.

Each method has its own risks i spouse.
