| 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 If I get a 929 PCIII will it work with a 954? I think the module is the same but the harness is different, if it is can I pop the pins out and rearrange them for proper wiring or is the plug different as well?
Thank you. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 The harness should have the same plug.
I'm just fitting 954 throttle bodies to my 929 and the FI harnesses are the same _except_ that two wires _might_ need to switched. The earth wire according to the wiring diagrams is on a different pin to the 929. Having both harnesses on my desk now though the wires seem to be on the same pins.
I can't fire the bike up until some exhaust wrap arrives so I can put the exhaust back on.
I would probably just cut the FI harness a couple of inches back of the plug and reconnect them with bullets.

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 The plugs are identical, so it will plug right in. The software is a bit different, so you can't directly download MAPs like you normally would. You'll have to cut and paste them in, but it will work. |

Why is the software different if both are PCIII USB? Just made for different years, I know the map on it will be wrong but thats not an issue.
Thanks for the replies. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 I just put in a 954 pcIII usb into my 929. It plugs in and works with no problems. When you download maps for the 954 you'll have to open two powercommander windows and highlight the 954 maps numbers then right click and copy. Then highlight the same numbers on any 929 map and right click and select paste. That's the only thing that you'll have to do differently.
I did the opposite for my 929. You're really going to love the powercommander. Make sure to download the accelerator pump mod (it's free!) from the powercommander website and install it into your powercommander. That mod made my bike so much more fun to ride. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 well I'm running a 954 pc on my 929 and everything mates up correctly with no wire changing so vise versa should apply.
how ever the 954 has a higher rev limit than the 929, at least this was my discovery when I tried to load a 929 map straight into the pc.
I believe what this means for you is that the 929 doesn't have the extra 500 rpms or so built |

My wiring diagrams show them as different but the pins in the plugs are wired the same so it should work - and I only say _should_ purely because I haven't tried it myself yet :-)

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 yeah they should work with either one (lucky us)
but what i was saying was that the the 929 does not have as high of a rev limit as the 954
which you can see if you compair a zero map of a 929 to a zero map of a 954.
this will only cause a problem for you if you are wanting to make any horse power above that rpm range on the 929 |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 I thought the 929 and 954 had the same rev limit.
12,200rpm I think on the dial but I think it's actually 11,800rpm on an accurate tacho.

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 well according to the pc3 map database the 929 revs to 13000 and the 954 revs to 14000rpm! |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Yeah the pcIII has slightly different ranges for the 954 and 929. The worse that could happen is having a 0 map for any range that it doesn't cover which means it's the same as stock. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Somehow I think the map is irrelevant.
You could put figures into the map up to 20,000rpm but the bike still isn't going to rev that high.
Have you seen a dyno graph that takes a 929 or 954 to 13,000rpm?

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 actually you can't put values up to 20K rpm, the highest is 14K on the 954 and 13K on the 929 but I get your point
but the software on the PC are 13max for the 929 and 14 on the 954. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 It's probably just an allowance for racebikes that might have a higher limiter I'd say.
My PC software goes to 20,000rpm so I could make a map that goes that high and name it as a 954 map - the bike just wouldn't use anything above the limiter. The "software" doesn't know if you're putting the map on an R6 or a Harley. The ECU reads the tacho in combination with all the other sensors, decides how much fuel the engine requires and sends that signal to the injectors and advancer. The PC does nothing more than intercept those signals en-route, alters them according to the map you're running, and sends them on their way.

you would have to find the map you like copy all the values and then paste them in the zero map of the 929 and then save it and then load it into the pc
it not to hard, I figured it out..... lol |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Thats interesting. Thats good to know. I learn quite a bit hanging around here.. I could start shopping for a PCIII for either 54 or 29. Seen a few up for sale used.

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Those who have these, is there really enough difference to care weather its a USB version or not? Do they act the same just hook to the computer differently? And do they need special cables or just regular serial/usb cable?
Again thanks for all then info! |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 The USB or serial is just the way it communicates with your computer.
Seriel needs a serial to serial cable. USB just uses a USB cable.
The serial model also has ignition mapping but you don't need that unless you have some serious engine mods.
Like suspension adjusters once you get it set up you won't need to touch it much if ever again.
Dynojet do add-on modules but I don't know if those work with both versions.

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Good luck trying to find a computer with a serial port. The usb version is the only one that will allow the accelerator pump mod (which is awesome).
You will need a laptop or the battery set up to keep the powercommander powered up with the map when going from computer to bike.
It is really good to have a laptop hooked up to the powercommander while the bike is running. I was able to get my bike to idle much smoother while doing this. That would never happen if I couldn't have the computer hooked up while the bike was running.
The usb cable is a standard mp3 type connector that you can buy at any computer store or probably walmart for a few bucks. I'm not sure about the 9 volt set up.
There may be a way to change the serial port to usb with some sort of adapter. I was looking into it before I bought a usb version. I think that it was sort of expensive for the adapter. I think it was more than $30 and I'm not sure that it would have worked.
If I were to do it over again, I'd make sure to get the usb version. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 Not to mention I've heard people mention that the serial PC3R (which is what i have in my 954) is in 500rpm increments and the PC3USB is in 250RPM increments. So ideally the PC3USB should allow for more precise fuelling...though I'm not sure it really makes a difference considering how fast the bike revs up. |

| Re: 02 954 PC III compatibility with CBR 929 yep. I have a 954 pcIII usb in my 929. The only thing you have to do is download one 954 map so you can load it into the 954 pcIII. You just download whichever 929 map you want then highlight the entire 929 map and paste it into the 954 map and give it a name like 929 map with arrow exhaust or whatever map it was so you know later that it is a trasfered map. I had a tuner put in actual 954 maps and my bike lost about 20HP. I switched back to the 929 map that was pasted into the 954 map and I got my HP back. |
