| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil Mine has again used some oil.
In 400 miles, it went from the top of the L on the dipstick MFL, to the bottom of the M
Took it back to the dealer and they added 200 ml, this again took it upto the top of the L
Dealer said dont worry !
Booked in for 4k service in 10 days time anyway !
Other blades from the same dealer are also using oil...........
Aparently Honda has said to only use semi synthetic for road use, and only race bikes should run on fully synth ??

I've heard in Turkey, sales of these machines is dead in the water because of the oil burning problem. That surely is getting some attention back at headquarters. Sure hope the Big H gets a handle on all this...and soon!

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil It might be a old thread but unsuspecting customers still have to live with thier new oil burning pride and joy, wich quite honestly would literally give me sleepless nights. If I was in the market for a new model I would wait till next year.Honda will probably never admit to a fault in public, but I am sure they will help all customers. For those that can remember a few months ago I posted in this forum that my 2003 954 had a cracked crankcase. It was a factory fault.Honda has never admitted it but put a brand new engine in my bike. That should surely tell you something. |

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil Hi all from Sunny Australia...(or smokey Sydney if your following my new blade)... I had the first 08 blade in NSW and up to 4500kms.... Mine is burning oil and smoking (first noticed at a track day...)... so have been back to dealer and its officially using 1100cc of oil per 1000kms.... so back to Honda for their answer..... (thats 1770cc of oil per 1000 miles !!!)
Anyone heard the rumour of Honda America recalling their stock of head gaskets and replacing them with modified design...apparantly returning oil is being resticted and is building up the head at high revs... so they have enlarged the return oil passageway in gasket ???? |

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil Latest update
Bike mileage 5680, was serviced at 4094 miles 10 days ago :
Oil consumption is 750ml, or : 475 ml per 1000 miles.
My riding included:
Motorway miles on the continent, 5 track sessions at Spa Francorchamps track, Belgium, blast to Germany, 28 laps at the Nurburgring, and then blast back home.
Ive given up worrying about the oil now, it uses it, some use less, some more.....
These oil figures using Castrol 10W30 semi synthetic

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil If you are still tracking this thread. Have your dealer do a compression check, hot, the answer is there. If compression is not within 10% of max then there is a problem. It might be one or more cylinders not seating in. Very easy proceedure. If it is a valve he should hear that too in the compression check. |

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil Hello all. My limited Edition is gulping the oil down as well. Oil was at top line then 1000km later none to be seen anywhere on the stick. I have called the Honda customer support line and bitched. My dealer is tracking the consumption rate. They did a compresion test 175,173,173 and 163. Then a leak down test. Forth cylinder had 33% leak down! Honda paid for the test also an oil change. Their explination for the oil consumption was the engine was not broken in after all it only has 8000km on it. Read the manual it states the break-in is only 500km. I feel like they are just delaying me as if I will forget about it. It has been almost 3 months since I first noticed and reported this problem. Sorry about the rambling but I am getting pissed off. This was supposed to be my dream bike now it seems more like a f^*king expensive night mare. |

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil 942kms (breakdown as 120kms on track.....490kms comutting to work and 332kms on weekend riding...)
1040cc of oil to bring it back up to set level. 1040/942 = 1104cc/1000km
Read Track as 2:02's Aus s.bike riders do 1:37's on same track so certainly not true track abuse...
Read Commuting as 35kms one way trip on busy peak hour freeways..
Read Weekend riding as longer rides on empty twisty roads....
More concerned with smoking more than oil usage though.... |

| Re: Fireblade 2008 - oil If I can give you guys any advice, start dealing with the Honda head office in wich ever country you are.The dealers can do nothing for you and wont until they get a instruction from the official importer or Honda head office.Find out who the Thecnical manager is in either your state or country of the Honda head office and contact him directly via phone or even better via e'mail, then its on record.I can bet you Honda is aware of the problem, but from what I can read on this forum the dealers are giving you guys the run around.Since when does a bike have to do 8000km to be run in,what absolute rubbish.I would tell that dealer in his face he hasent got any bloody idea what he is talking about and should stop taking you for a fool. |
