| 2003 CBR954RR... alright i found an ad on cycle trader for a 2003 cbr954rr with lots of aftermarket parts and it was in excellent condition for 2800. Well i emailed the guy and he finally emailed me back and it seemed pretty legit so i emailed him back again and ask when i could come see the bike, well this is what he replied: "Hi again,
What can I tell you more about the bike, it is in perfect condition. I have the title (CLEAN) in hand.
There is nothing wrong with the bike. Its ready to go. No rust, no accidents.
We have one little issue though, I'm a soldier in the US ARMY and last Friday I was transferred to a new military base in California for final instructions because in less than a month I'll be in Iraq for a one year period. I spoke to my superiors and they can support me with a military flatbed truck to ship it (in case you want to buy it) so,shipping wouldn't be a problem and it will be free of charge for you and the price remains the same ($2800). If you do not accept, you can chose any other shipping company such as DAS AUTO SHIPPERS but they have a very big fee for such a transport and it will cost you more than$600 so, I suggest one of our trucks here even if it's not so fast but...it's free and that's the most important thing. I have the title in hand and I'm ready to make a deal as soon as possible. The delivery will not take more than 3-4 days and the bike will be dropped at your home address if you want. So, if you hurry up you'll be able to take a ride with it in no time.
Now, the ball is in your court.
Let me know your decision because my time is limited
Thank you, Ken
P.S.: I have attached a copy of my Army ID."
So i know im new to these forums and all but i would like to know your feedback on this situation it screams scam to me but i could be wrong lol...

Reason: The ad originally said the bike was in Charlotte,

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... Why do they always say $2800! I saw three bikes on cycletrader that were the same price $2800 and they were 2 2007 zx-10's and like a 2005 busa. They also gave me some bogus arse story like the one above. I e-mailed cycletader security and they quickly removed them. |

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... They want you to always send the money to them through some third party promising you that you can get your money back if you are not happy with the bike when it's delivered. the guy I talk to wanted me to go through some kind of e-bay thing. I told him I had the cash in hand and wanted to drive to L.A. to see the bike. He said it was at a shipping company there. I live in San Diego so I called his bluff. Guess what, he never responded back. You could wait till it snows in hell and you wouldn't get the bike. By that time they are long gone with your mula. |

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... Does this one look legit! I don't think so. $3500 for a 2005 600rr w/ only 780 miles on it. I haven't talk to the person, but why would you sell it for so cheap. This is just a sample for people to see. Notice no tele # and she wants you to reply to the specific e-mail address and not through craigslist.
Edit: I don't know if this is real legit or not. Just showing somethings to look for. Someone could try contacting her if they would like to see for themselves 2005 Honda CBR600RR black 1 owner stock low mileage |

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... Totally a scam.
I just had a similar craigslist email sent to me. Bike is less than 2hrs away. I sent back that I don't require shipping and that I can pick up in person tomorrow. I doubt I'll hear back.
BTW...there is no way anyone in the mil would load a bike on a truck and deliver it cross-country to your doorstep. Aside from just being wrong, that's called fraud, waste, and abuse. At best, it would only get the people doing something like that fired.

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... Hey Jim,
You need to unblock your PM setting to recieve PM's.
Thanks for the support. I already reported the ones I saw and they were removed right away. The one that I listed above was from craigslist, so you are safe on that one. I purchased my bike from cycletrader and check the cycletrader ads pretty much everyday. I will report any ad that seems fishy to me. I would hate to see anybody get scammed. Especially something that you are really looking forward to, like purchasing your first bike.
Thanks again

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... I'm tryin to figure out, why if it's legit, did the person not take you up on your offer for you to come out to look at the bike?? I've bought bikes from people in Dallas and Kansas, and they were more than willing to accomodate me and my travel arraingements in any way possible. Just because someone flashes you credentials (military in this case) doesn't mean that they are honorable. I'm glad you didn't or haven't taken this person up on his offer, unless he's willing to stipulate that C.O.D. is available, AFTER you test ride it then I would have to fly, drive, swim etc. to see the bike before any of my money changed hands. That's just my opinion. You can find plenty of good hearted people that are honest that are trying to sell bikes on the legit, you just have to weed out the bad one's......Good luck. |

Cycle Trader | Jim,
Glad to see you taking steps to correct the problems.
Something else that needs to be addressed:
Dealers who put "call for price" up on their ads. What a PIA when trying to search for a bike. Maybe add a button that allows us to opt that out of the search?
Also, when shopping over the past few weeks, there were dealers who didn't even have the bikes that were listed up for sale. I wish I could remember which one now, but they had a 2007 GSX-R750 advertised...also "call for price." When I called, he said they'd been out for months, but offered to sell me an '08.
I very well could have missed it, but the site would benefit greatly from a feedback link that would allow us to report issues that should be investigated. I've loved using cycletrader in the past for both buying and selling, but the list is growing of people who are losing faith.
I also ran across a few ads that had incorrect email or phone numbers listed. I can't imagine what someone has to gain by posting that stuff, but the one person I called had been getting inquiries for a while and they didn't even own a motorcycle.

| Re: 2003 CBR954RR... That is something that we get mixed reviews on -- some people love it while others don't. Personally, I think it should be modified so that dealer/sellers can still put "call for price" but the actual cost of the bike is sorted as if it were shown to the customer. This way dealers are happy with a tried and true method of making the phones ring, while customers can determine what falls in their price range (through search parameters).
That may not sound like a big improvement but it is a change to the way things are currently done.
The link to send us feedback is located here: Send Us Your Feedback - CycleTrader.com
That is, go to the CycleTrader.com home page, click on "About Us" in the top navigation bar, and then "Give us your Feedback" on the bottom left.
Let me know what else is on your mind....customer/user ideas are the best at making sure we remain on top.
Best Regards.
Jim
