Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

I have a 03 954 with a new air filter and fresh oil change about 1k miles ago. I know oil change doesn't do anything for gas mileage, but I just thought I would put that out there. I filled her up with 3.5 gallons today for about $15. Ive already put 90 miles on it and I am hoping it goes atleast 125 miles before the light comes on. Is 35 mpg on the low end when I am riding it hard and about 45-50 highway sound about right. What do you guys think your getting for gas mileage on yours??

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

45-50 sounds a bit optimistic. Is your gearing the stock 16/43? I get 40mpg most of the time. When ridden hard it can reduce quite a bit, but mixed riding gives between 38-42 on my 929.

My light comes on at about 120-130 on the low end and 160 on the high end.

36mpg (UK g that is) most the time. 954 was about the same, as was my 918 rr-w....

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

Normally get 40mpg (UK) with my 954 with general running around (about 130 miles on the clock before the light comes on) This is with a PC3 & custom map.

Hammering the bike the worst I've gotten was 26mpg (UK) which is 85 miles when the light comes on.

I hear the 2008 Blade is doing near 50mpg (UK) with general running around Sweet Jesus - I need to get a go of one of these....

King Kenny: dont believe everything you read

18 litre tank - 125 miles before reserve light comes on 3.5l remaining meaning if my maths are correct that is .... 8.6 miles to the litre = 38 ish mpg so if you are getting 40mpg for your 954 then its not doing too bad considering its similar to a 1000cc '08

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

Depends on how hard you ride it. I can get anywhere between 85-120 miles on a tank. The 954 is not known as the most fuel efficient machine. Slap a PC3, custom map, change the gearing, etc. These can all effect the milage you get. My advice. Get a scooter if you are looking for super fuel economy. Hammer the 954 and smile everytime you fuel up!!!

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

If you want accuracy don't assume the light comes on with 3.5 litres in the tank. Simply fill the tank and see how much you're putting back in to work out your mileage.
Also, US and UK gallons are very different - and not just in their prices ;-)

^^ What he said...

My 954 will give me normally about 100-110 (thats hard and soft), 90 when I think im Rossi but I've also seen 130 before - best way is to check yourself

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

I have put 500 miles on my blade (had it on the road 7 days). First tank I got 38mpg, the next 2 I got 44mpg. I kept getting nervous because my low fuel light wasn't coming on even at ~150 miles. It's an 03 bone stock. Needless to say I am impressed I was expecting 35-40. It helped the last 2 tanks were a lot of back country road miles cruising in 6th.

Never said I was looking to get some crazy good gas mileage. I was just wondering what other people got on theirs to make sure mine wasn't burning too much gas, etc. So I'll leave the Vespa for you.

No Bad Blood intended party. The 954 is not the best on fuel was the only message I was trying to relay. My other vehicle is a 1 ton diesel. I may take you up on the Vespa offer!

I can confirm that. During break-in, I was averaging 48 mpg US. The 2008 has a spectacular fuel consumption computer that shows your trip average + current 10 second average, as well as overall consumption so there's no guesswork when it comes to how much fuel is left. It's a lot of fun to watch it roll up to 99.9 mpg when compression braking down a long hill.

Now that the break-in is far behind me, I find it closer to mid-30's unless I do a lot of highway riding. That's due to my generous application of throttle, though.

Before my gear change I was getting 34.298 avg mpg over 2214 miles. Thats mostly canyon riding and no commuting

After (-1 in the front) the gear change for 518.3 miles I have been getting a avg mpg of 38.651

See attached Excell sheet for more exact figures as well as what I am getting for each tank

Is this including subrtracting your odometer error due to the gearing?

Yea 6% change from the stock setup the only reason the the mpg increased is I have not been riding as hard with the heat in AZ I lay off running the canyons and track days in the summer

I have gotten a low of 28 mpg and a high of 40 mpg on my 1KRR. This depends greatly on how you ride. 75 mph and 1/8 throttle down the hwy will return good mileage. The more fun you have the more gas you will use.

Re: Gas Milage on FireBlades!!

the last 2 weekends i have got 42 and 43 mpg running about 75 mph the first trip was 450 miles and the second was only 350 miles.... But i do ride in a full tuck most of the way, so air resistance is down. i have stock gearing and a decent tune on my PC and full hindle exhaust.

I barley get 30 when im in town though
