| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall ...I wish I'd read this thread!!
I took my bike in for it's clutch recall two weeks ago, rode it home the day after and then round town a bit thinking "hmmm, this aint right!"
So I took it back to teh dealer and they hmmmd and haaaahd a bit and then kept it in for a week while I was in Cannes on a work trip. Got back yesterday and picked up the bike - they said "no problems". So I rode it up the road and hey presto, exactly the same problem as before!
\
So where do I stand ? What do I do ? Do I try another dealer or go back again ?
It is the same problem as you have all reported here by the way.... so annoying!
Thanks for your help, any dealers near London you can recommend I'd be interested.... Quote:
Originally Posted by TheEasterBunny Just had the recall done on my bike.... twice. Had it done the first time and had the same problem with the clutch not feeling like it fully engaged. On the original clutch the bike started pulling from a stop when you got the clutch lever about 1/3 open, on the new clutch it wouldn't start to roll until you let the lever all the way out. I took it back to the dealership and explained that I had seen on the interwebs about the problem with the ring that had to be carried over from the other clutch, they ignored me and did an "adjustment". I took the bike back and the clutch started slipping badly once it warmed up. When I took it back again they finally called the Honda rep and he explained that the instructions for the recall from Honda didn't explain that they needed to carry over the ring from the old clutch pack. They opened up all the other bikes on the showroom they had fixed and found that they were also missing the ring. It looks like this is a very widespread problem as the new clutch pack from Honda doesn't include this ring and the instructions don't say to carry over the old one either, it just says to swap the entire sub-assembly. I know this has happened to a lot of owners out there because you can find the problem on a lot of other boards too. Honda is replacing my entire clutch pack again and not just the ring because of concern that my clutch may be prematurely worn now due to the test ride with all the slipping. I suggest that everyone that has had this update done ask the dealership if they are absolutely certain that they carried over this ring from the old pack. If they haven't, insist that they fix it, and that they also put in all new clutch plates as they may be prematurely worn. Honda also isn't currently issuing a second recall, and I don't know if they have re-worded the installation instructions. It looks like they are only correcting the problem on a case by case basis when the owner repeatedly brings the bike back to the dealership and is able to convince them to contact the Honda rep. |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall Hard lines stubobaloo, can't believe they are still having problems with this clutch recall. Can't help with knowing if its worth taking it to another dealer, would just suggest printing details from this forum and take them with you. Does the clutch lever travel nearly all the way out before any bite or is it a different problem? |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall I picked up a new 08 last week and had the clutch work done during prep. I had the same problem with slipping around 6-8K rpms. When I took it back the mechanic test rode it, took it apart and said a "washer" was backwards. He said he had only installed the parts in the same way that they were packaged.
Good Luck. |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall You would think Honda would revise the literature to include the info about using the ring from the old clutch pack..! Dealers are usually too stuborn to listen to customers too, they think they know everything, your best bet is to give the info directly to the mechanic doing the work and if possible have the same mechanic do all your work so you build a raport with him. |

I am a brand new 08 Leftover owner. What is the VIN range for the clutch issue? What do you mean by clutch slippage? Is it similar to a clutch slipping on a car? |

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall when mine was performed improperly. it felt as if the clutch would not release completely. a strange draggy feeling and a lot of "what the f#%&! is up with this!" if it dont feel right take it back to them and let them ride it. if they think its ok and you dont agree. contact honda directly. my experience with american honda was good.

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall The surface of the exhaust lower is definietly not perfectly flat even when brand new. It has "bump" like high spots. Crap description I know.
I contacted Honda about mine, and mine isn't really bad as I have only done 1500 miles. Immediately they said that they were aware of the problem and would replace it under warranty. I spoke to my dealer who said that they thought production had not changed, so the new exhaust would only end up looking the same. They advised me to wait a bit to see if Honda change production of it, and actually paint it with something that is heat resistant.
I'm not too worried as Honda admit there is a problem, and I have over a year of warranty to replace it should I choose to.
my exhaust is being replaced under warrant even though mine is an early 08. |

I don't think Honda could actually find a solution, hence the vented cover over the top of the exhaust on the 2010 models.
I've found my own solution. I'm finally going to buy the Taylormade Racing exhaust. |

Even if I pay Customs it will be cheaper than buying the parts in the UK.

| Re: 2008 Fireblade Recall Thanks for that, I will have to do the maths. How much from UK supplier verses direct from Taylormade + VAT + import duties and delivery, I think the last time I bought from America I got charged for the lot but it still worker out 'slightly' cheaper. Let us know how you get on m8, and if you have to pay the VAT and import duties and what it end up costing you. At the moment I cannot afford it without stretching the Visa card
