954rr gauge swap questions???

ok...similar to what people are doing to upgrade and swap their gauge cluster, just that I guess I'm wanting to go backwards, and go digital to analog...
I'm wondering what other year gauges, if any can swap in to a 2003 954rr.
I don't care about matching plugs, as I don't mind splicing and making my own connectors.
I don't really have any need for the speedo and warning lights, just really want the tachometer and the temp gauge.
First, what gives the tach it's signal? I've looked over the wiring diagram, I just can't get by this one.
I know the temp gauge get's it's signal from the ECT sensor. I just need to find what ohms it gives off with a given temp, and find the matching gauge.
Wondering if the Tachometer and the temp gauge from something like a 1997 CBR900RR would work without too much fuss. I'd much rather have an analog display than a digital display.

Anyone have any knowledge they'd like to share?

I don't know where you are but here to be legal you have to have a speedo, odometer, high beam indicator and indicator warning light.
The tach signal comes from the ECU but I would guess it's being taken from either the pulse generator or cam position sensor.

Re: 954rr gauge swap questions???

Not a road legal vehicle and not planning on using it on the road.

Would one of those be the sensor that come off the top of the transmission, on the right side near the clutch arm? 3 pin connector? Or is that for the speedo?

Ok, how about the ohm ranges of the 1997 900rr temp sensor?

Re: 954rr gauge swap questions???

If your bike already has gages just install a temperature Gage and use the original tach. Just buy an aftermarket Auto Meter or SunPro temp gauge that comes with it's own temperature sensor and run the sensor into the exit coolant hose and mount the gauge to your clipons or speedo..

Re: 954rr gauge swap questions???

I don't have any gauges, so I'm starting from scratch. Autometer temp gauge is plan B, if a 900rr won't work. Just seeing what my options are.

Re: 954rr gauge swap questions???

Did anything come about from this?
As i'm considering changing my 98 guages for ones from a 954 and can't find anywhere saying what pin is what wire so i can at least start attempting to match them up

Re: 954rr gauge swap questions???

i just ended up getting a stock 954rr gauge cluster (2 actually)...I spliced my way through all the connections...I didn't connect any of the turn signal indicators, high beam, the low fuel warning light or the FI error, but I did find the wires and could hook them up if wanted...
