need opinion on a vfr

Just sold the 954; baby on the way... need something cheap to ride for a year or so; found this on the net. Never had or even ridden a vfr, but I know their reputation; what about the mileage? Bad news? What problem areas do I need to ask the guy about? Says he has past maintenance records. Price ok? Any other thoughts? Thanks.

If properly maintained, VFRs will get well over 100k.

Re: need opinion on a vfr

$2500 for a nice refrigerator '93? That's underpriced. Other than the R/R, that bike is bulletproof if it hasn't been in a wreck. It's heavy, torquey, comfortable, and surprisingly capable in almost any role.

MPG - 40+ at 75-80 on the freeway, as low as 30 in the twisties

If you don't want it, I know someone who might.

Re: need opinion on a vfr

I agree. It looks like a bargain to me. And the guy has just replaced the R/R with a finned one. They are sweet bikes if a little heavy compared to the 954. And there is nothing that sounds like an open piped VFR on full song in a canyon

Re: need opinion on a vfr

I might check it out then. It's in chicago and I'm in st. louis so I think I might find a honda shop in chicago and have him take it there for a ppi. I assume that repair is a bit more expensive since it's a v4? How are parts costs; similiar to other hondas or slightly more? It doesn't have any weird tire size does it?

That bike is gone in a heartbeat if it was listed in the right place...

Always a good idea...

> I assume that repair is a bit more expensive since it's a v4? How are parts costs; similiar to other hondas or slightly more?

Shouldn't be any different than other Hondas. Valve adjustment/check may be more labour intesive, but that can easily be done in a few hours yourself. Most VFRs rarely require adjustment, and the inspection interval is 16k miles.

> It doesn't have any weird tire size does it?

Stock size is 120/70/17 and 170/60/17 (most people put a 180 on since it has a 5.5" rim)

If it was properly maintained, mileage isn't an issue and sounds like a decent price.

$2500 is a steal for a 12yr old bike?

I guess he's just been listing it on the net. I found it on the chicagoland sportbikes site; he first listed it in october.
Thanks for all the advice.

If he put it in a VFR-centric area, it would be gone....

At that price, you can't get hurt unless you total it...you could ride that bike for another couple of years and it will still be worth that much unless you trash it...

Re: need opinion on a vfr

Now, the most important question: will it do stand ups?
At first I was also thinking $2500 for a 12 year old bike is not a steal either but I did some price watching on ebay and the boards, cycletrader. People are paying insane prices right now, like over $3K for an f2. Stupid. Must be spring fever.

Re: need opinion on a vfr

Great bike...I had a 1996 for two years It had a salvage title...minor problem. Sweet ride and very reliable I saw one for sale with 65000M for 4500$ CAD and that was two years ago.

This year and bike in white color is a great classic.

Get it

A+
