Uh Hi Total and complete Noob here...

Ahem....

Hello folks... Ok about 20 years ago I got the 2 wheel bug and at that time I was still in high school and Mom was like: "No you cannot get a motorcycle your going to kill yourself."

6-7 years later I get married and My wife says: "No you cannot get a motorcycle your going to kill yourself. And beside we live in a small apt where are you gonna store it?"

I turn 34.... I finally give my mom and my wife a polite "STFU I want a dam bike!"

So Craigslist. I post an add basicly saying I want a first bike and I got $1500 to spend. Now in in 1985 I remember looking at Honda Interceptors like they were the holy grails of machinery. when Low and behold a guy answers my add and sends me a picture of his 1985 VF700F...

He confessed the carbs need to be cleaned but it runs once it's warm and the tires really need to be changed... I offered 1300 and the guy was nice enough to deliver the machine complete with original owners manual, the Honda service manual and toolkit still under the seat. Only 20,000 miles...

Here it is in my driveway now: Clicky Clicky

Ok, now you have my life story a newb question: I have heard that this generation of the interceptor may be suceptable to early cam wear?
How early is early? And aside from spending 275 bucks on the Oil Hack what is the concensus on Synthetic oil? which one? Will it help more less? Indeferent? should I change oil every 1000 miles? 2000?

thanks all!

Nice bike. I remember wanting them from when I was a kid also.

On a recent trip I ran across a guy on a 1000:

That thing looks great!

For information on the early interceptors, you need to search the archives on the vfrlist
Quote:
To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit
https://lists.cs.wisc.edu/mailman/listinfo/vfr
or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to
vfr-request@cs.wisc.edu

You can reach the person managing the list at
vfr-owner@cs.wisc.edu
There will be a search address and instructions.

Also, check www.vfrdiscussion.com I think there are several guys with first generation bikes there.

If you've never ridden a street bike, ( that your mom and wife ever knew about...) I suggest an Motorcycle Safety Foundation class.

Welcome to the .org!

Oh... Believe me I plan on attending... here in NH if you pass the class you imediatly get a license.. All of my friends who ride have taken it some even after they had their license and they have claimed they learned quite a bit about some bad habits they had aquired and how to be better riders...

Re: Uh Hi Total and complete Noob here...

from over here, too.

Training and clothing should be high on your list. There's this bunch of UK VFR owners as well to plug into:

http://www.hondavfrclub.org/forum/

Glad you got your independence! My parents wouldn't let me ride while I was at home, and my wife (now ex-) really didn't like my riding. Living with criticism is one of those things you get used to: but LIVING with it, that's the important thing!

Enjoy .

Re: Uh Hi Total and complete Noob here...

Beautiful bike. Looks great for 20K miles and only $1300. You did good.

Check out the VFR homepage and links. There is an early VFR owner's list that would have good information, but don't know the link (it will be in the archives). The Magna/Saber lists also have good information, and here is a link to start with http://users.metro2000.net/~cdc/magna/mcpage.htm

Good luck, and be sure to join the VFR list gathering in West Lebanon, NH next Fall (Sept. 8-10, I believe). We call it "We Don't Give a Hoot" (WDGH or WDGAH, depending on preference).

Have a good one and enjoy ... BTW, a bottle of carb/injector cleaner spread over a few tank fills did wonders to clear out the carbs of an RC30. Might be a first thing to try instead of pulling carbs.
