VFR 750 / VFR 1000 Interchangeability

Well, I'll be honest, I havent had a bike for quite a few years now. I do have the remains of a vfr750 with a good motor, and I just came across a very very nice 1000, which would appear to be ceized. Cosmeticly, the bikes in perfect condition. I know there are several things interchangable between the different interceptors, Im wondering would it be possible, (all be it a crime to go from 1000-750cc's) to swap my motor, in to this bike? I'm just looking for cheap back and forth to work transportation at this point, and I dont think Ill be able to find a 1k motor, and stay within my budget.

Thanks much,
-Pat

Re: Noob question...

I have no personal knowledge of this swap, but my observation is that if you have enough time and money, anything's possible. You'll probably have to fab up some spacers so the engine sits correctly.

You might ask this question on the vfrlist or vfrdiscussion.com

By remains, how much do you mean is still intact of the 750? Might be easier to put the 750 together than fit the 750 engine into the 1000. The VFR would make a better commuter than a VF1000R (I'm assuming that is what you mean).

Definitely check the forums CBRVFR noted, there are several former VF1000R owners there. Also check the information on the VFR homepage http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~john/vfr/ , there might be some good links or specification information.

I think the 1000 engine is larger than the 750 by a pretty good amount.

If you get it running, be sure to check out the COTU (Center of the Universe) ride out of Marietta, Ohio the weekend of May 13th. There will be some VFR's to kick tires with.

What years are the two bikes, the 750 and the 1000?

I personally only know of one such hybrid bike and it's called "The Gimp".

It's a VF1000R motor in a VF750F chassis. Not as easy as it sounds.

Pics and such:

I must be bored, I just read that entire engine swap write up. Was pretty interesting though.
