F2 vs VFR

Been riding for a long time, looking to get a cheap sportbike. I'm 5'7 130lbs so any bike I'm on is fast. Going to ride locally, on short trips, long trips, 2 up, 1 up. Handling is definitely a priority. Fun is the top priority. My BMW F650 is a favorite of mine, bulletproof, neutral balance, but I'm looking for 100hp and a street bike to add to the stable.

Any comments or opinions are appreciated about the following:

1992 CBR600 F2 30k miles, supposedly owned by an older guy, probably true since the pics show the bike with the rear blinkers intact and hanging license plate holder. Two Bros. pipe with KN filter, otherwise all stock. Recently refreshed after sitting in garage for 4 years."Oil , coolant , brake fluid. A fresh battery , starts easily. The carbs and the whole intake system were thoroughly cleaned and inspected, the fuel petcock replaced by a new one."..... "owned by mechanic" $2900 obo must sell ASAP

1993 Honda VFR750f Interceptor - Factory White, 23k miles - damage to fairings and a small rip in the seat, but it still runs very strong - new battery - two brother racing exhaust - $2450 obo "the plastics in my honest opinion would be a 6 out of 10 to me. As for the mechanical condition, I am not too clued up, but I would say it probably needs a rear brake & could do with a new chain. I bought this bike a few months ago, but now my financial circumstances have changed and I need the money now"

Re: F2 vs VFR

Depends on how long of trips, and how large your passenger is. The F2 is a great bike, and for your size should fit pretty good. The VFR (I'm on my 3rd, so I'm biased) is a wonderful bike, but is heavy, so you would want to consider how often you go longer distances and what passenger features you want. The VFR is definitely a better 2 person touring bike.

Just a few thoughts for you. Good luck.

Re: F2 vs VFR

Just a little more cash and you'd be in the 99 to 01 bike territory. I'd skip the VFR from what the add sounds like.

I personaly will not buy a carbed bike again

if you look long and hard you might find an f4 (carbs) or 01 f4i (injected demon!) for 3000 to 3700 roughly. great sport bike with decent ergos. I bought mine for 4500 two years ago with 8500 on the clock. should be much cheaper now.

Re: F2 vs VFR

Thanks for that info guys, helps out. Might go for the CBR thinking about the weight now. I had a lot of fun one week on a 2003 R6, terrorizing the hills of SoCal, the bike did everything I threw at it.

I'll definitely consider the newer F4i -

just found this one:
"2002 HONDA CBR 600 F4i
just over 4000 miles
like new condition
1 owner" $3800

only thing is it's yellow...hm...

Re: F2 vs VFR

Both are great bikes, and I've owned both, and still own a 97 VFR750. From the sound of the add on the VFR, I think you could do better for similer money if you looked around. The VFR is a Sport-Tourer, and is definitly heavier, but more comfortable for two-up, has a fuel gauge, and a few more ponies.

Offer the F2 guy $2K. He says "obo, must sell ASAP".

Re: F2 vs VFR

The VFR is a sweet bike, though fairing parts are becoming difficult to get. It's not so heavy that the F2 would run away from it in any sane street riding scenario, and it's very comfortable.

Re: F2 vs VFR

vfr might be better long haul. i've owned the f2 as my first bike and i loved it but my friends vfr seemed a little better for long trips after i rode it. i bought my custom painted f2 in excellent condition at a car dealership actually for $700!! had 25k on the od. 3k could afford much newer bike tho with more research...
