Making a VTEC non VTEC

I have a question to put to those in the VFR tech world.

Would it be possible to modify a VTEC VFR so that all 4 valves per cyl were actuated at all times. I know it's an oil pressure system that pushes a pin across to activate the extra 2 valves? (yes, no?).

It would seem like an interesting mod to check out to see whether that 2 valves per cyl really does give more torque etc down low, or it's just full of **** and they're ripping VFR owners off (and trying to get around emission laws).

I don't own one, this is purely from a technical point of view and out of interest. Anyone done this or know of how it might be able to be achieved?

Cheers

I think it's pretty well established that the relationship between the higher velocity of a cylinder filling with smaller ( or fewer) valves translates into more torque at lower rpm's.

Having said that, Honda should have just solved their problem with 250 more cc's, and a better looking, lighter bike. WITH GEAR DRIVEN CAMS. They'd still be making the VFR long into the future.

Oh yeah, I understand the theory. That's now what I'm trying to argue for/against etc. I'm just wondering if it's possible (when there's a will ... and there is a ****en will ... there's a way ... and there is a ****en way .. hehe, gotta love that film 'Sexy Beast') or anyone has done it.

i may be wrong but isnt it when the vtec kicks in it just opens the valves farther or for longer? i thought they always were running 4

Nope. 2 valves per/cyl up until around 7k rpm, then a pin slides across and activates the other 2 valves. The cam is always spinning though.
