| Interested in a VFR First off, I've been lurking around Fireblades for a little over 2 years and this is my first post.....so Hi
Anyway on to my question. I currently have an 06 F4i...it's ok, and for my first sportbike and being off a bike for 10 years it did what I wanted in the begining. A year and half later...I have discovered track days and devote a lot of time to my riding. Specifically for the track, and on the track the f4i has plenty. In fact, wrapping that bike up on the track actually gives me a whole new respect for that bike. But the F4i lacks torque. I grew up riding dirtbikes, so a bike with no torque is quite boring to me.
On the track, the f4i is a lot of fun and I don't feel like I'm outgrowing the bike. On the street....I really notice the lack of torque and want a bigger bike, but I don't want or need a liter bike. I live in the Tulsa area and all the good roads are in AR....but 300-400 miles on the f4i is my limit before I want off. So I'd really like something that is "comfortable". Another pet peeve of mine is group rides. Quite often I'm the only 600 in the group and when I'm in the back staying with the group of bigger bikes is a challenege. I also do quite a bit of 2 up riding with my wife....and riding the hills in AR is miserable with her on the 600.
Wife is cool with me keeping the 600 for the track..and for her to possiblily to learn ride on. For the street, I've decided I need more torque....not neccessarly more hp. But I don't want to give the feel of the twisties on a sport bike for a cruiser. I'm not really impressed with the FJR or Bandit...I'm gonna be 32 and those strike me as bikes my dad would ride. But the VFR has always appealed to me.
So after all that....the question is....will the VFR handle 2 up riding with out a lot of shifting...is it comfortable for 400 plus mile day....can it still handle the twisties....and will it give me the torque I want? And will it remind me I'm not on a supersport bike? Cause lately, I'm loosing the sensation of speed on the street and it's starting to scare me. Meaning going faster in turns doesn't bother me and exiting a turn well over 100 mph is not so uncommon anymore.

I don't really have a desire for more torque or power necessarily but I have a desire for a little more comfort for my wife and I on long rides but still want a sporting nature. There are a couple of VFR's with the matched Honda hard bags that look awesome on eBay right now.

| Re: Interested in a VFR My toy is a CBR10RR8 and I love it to bits but……….. if you really want to go touring – in comfort that is – something else is needed. My testimony of the VFR is full of praise. A comfortable bike with a sporty look, which is more than capable to supply lots of fun in the twisties. Not a giant in the speed and power department but still deceptively fast. 2 Up on the 800 can definitely be felt but not to an extend where lots of shifting are required. Ample luggage storage place with the two Honda hard panniers……..not so good looking when fitted though. The relative lack in power pushed me towards……….don’t shoot me now……the BMW K1200S - and what a bike that is. My wife is the proud owner of the VFR and we have done tens of thousands of very memorable kilometers together………very capable machine the VFR and performed faultless up to now.

Shades | I am pretty sure i know what your talking about when you say a "FJR or Bandit" is your dads bike!!  i feel the same way.
The reason i keep my VFR around is only because I can ride it for 5-7 hours (by myself) on afternoon trips to places. My Fiance will ride with me now for somewhat long rides but anything over 3 hours with her on the back gets really exhausting for her and me. We have to take the VTX out for anything over 3 hours if we are riding together.
But i really do love the VFR! I forked over the 4K to put a full Corbin set up on my Viffer. The hard beetle bags...the gunslinger seat... and the back rest. When i compare riding it with the stock seat and bags it just feels different with the Corbin stuff. Almost like a smother, sleeker bike... but thats just a feeling and not a real Reason
Oh and you can still ride it on bike night and have the newbies talking about the exhaust and single swing arm for hours on end  |

| Re: Interested in a VFR i own a 91' VFR. i love it i think riding two up on it wouldn't be bad. a friend of mine has a 98' and has a after market seat on it, his girl its very comfortable. same as you i went from a 600 to my VFR 750. one thing i notice is that its heavier than what i'm use to. even some of the bimmers i've ridin. but a wonderful touring bike plus the feel & look of the sport. |

| Re: Interested in a VFR Ya I bought April 1st, and it has almost 1100 miles on it. It's a little heavier but that's ok, it feels more planted in the turns. I wouldn't call it a touring bike though, it's just as capable of hard riding on the street as any SS. Speaking of bike night, I had a noob flip out the other night about the SSSA. He thought it was cool as hell, and was wondering when Honda started doing that? And he believed Honda is the only bike doing that......  |

Sounds like you'll be riding alot so just remember the 15K vavle adjust interval is crap! its very pricey and you dont really need it until around 25-30K !!! |

| Re: Interested in a VFR Is that an 04? I have been riding my 02 for a few years now and rode my friends 06 last summer and there is a big difference in the VTEC between his bike and mine. IMO I'd get a 06 or newer because of the VTEC lag, and it flips on a little after 6K rpm as opposed to 7 on mine.
But it could also just be because my bike is old and had 30K on it. |

| Re: Interested in a VFR Have you tried out the ST 1300? I have, and it had plenty of power. I'm 6'1'' and 235lbs and there was plenty of room for me and the ole lady. As for shifting the bike pulled like a tractor and shifting was not an issue. lots of torque and better than expected handeling. |

I have always liked the ST 1300, but to me its just a mini goldwing, not sexy like a VFR and if you plan on taking it out for bike night then it might as well be a super comfortable, relaxing GW.
All jokes aside, there really is nothing sexy about a st1300. its just a solid, comfortable mini-touring bike.  |
