| Rear rotor on 5th gen VFRs? Okay, guys, I need a little bit of help here. Specifically, from anyone who owns a 5th gen VFR. That's 1998-2001 for those not sure.
This is regarding the rear rotor.
Okay, so on my 1999 VFR the rotor is a round piece with a cross/plus-sign cut out in the middle, and it has a spacer that is machined with the same cut-out. Now, I picked up a Galfer wave rotor for the rear, and according to them you still have to use the spacer. Funny thing though is that they list the same rotor part number from 1998 all through 2006.
Now here is where it gets tricky.
According to my service manual, and Honda's own parts microfiche, the stock rotor for the 1998-1999 model is different from the 2000-2001 rotor. Now, my service manual shows the same spacer for both, and so does Honda's microfiche, but their microfiche shows a different spacer than what I have and what the service manual shows. On top of that, even though Galfer lists the same rotor from 1998 all the way through 2006, Honda's 6th gen VFR (2002-on forward) doesn't have a spacer. But the rear axle is still the same.
So, anyone got any idea as to what is going on? Can I run the rotor without the spacer? Or do I have to have it? And if I do have to have it, can I use the spacer shown now, or does it have to be just like the one I already have? I ask because with the wave rotor, the spacer I have looks ugly as all hell, and I'd really like to make the whole setup look as clean as possible.
Any and all advice, suggestions, or even speculation, is welcome. I'll be posting this on the VFR-specific forums too, but since this is my main online community, I figured I'd check here first. Oh, and I know that it's good to be thorough when describing a problem, but thanks anyways for having the patience to actually read my whole post. |
