| Re: 02 VFR oil filter will not come off? Large screwdriver and a hammer. Put the screwdriver though the filter and use it to turn it. |

| Re: 02 VFR oil filter will not come off? ok, if the canister is spinning but not the thin metal base, what you need to do is get a small metal chisel and hammer and tap on the metal ring where it seats up to the emgine, but becarefull not to hit the engine.
sounds like what happened is it stuck to the block and you spun the filter cover. |

| Re: 02 VFR oil filter will not come off? I've had where the filter was put on so tight from the factory that I busted a oil filter wrench. It rounded the end off. So I used the screwdriver method. |

I would guess that the filter was put on without lubricating the o-ring. |

| Re: 02 VFR oil filter will not come off? guys thanks for the replys I was hoping it wouldnt come to that, i think the case isnt spinning so there is hope, I thought about drilling a hole in the filter wrench and running a screw through it and filter, maybe less of a mess. |

Drill at the end of the filter. I've done the screw driver bit before. Drilling just sounds scary.

| Re: 02 VFR oil filter will not come off? Or, use large water-pump pliers (also known as "slip-joint" pliers). They open wide enough where you can grab the thing, crunch down and get it started. It's usually just that first turn that's difficult.. |

My Mini's engine is so compact that was the only way to take it off.
