85 VF700F Interceptor Problem

Hello out there,
Im new to this, and im looking for some HELP.I have a 85 vf700f interceptor that will not start or when it starts it will run for 5-10 mins then die, this is what I have done to the bike and what I have had dont to the bike
1. carbs redone,cleaned,rejetted,tuned
2. new fuel pump (factory part)
3. new plugs,new battery,new fuel pump relay,new air filter
Im loosing amps from fuel pump to the fuse board goes from 12 down to 8-9 volts White wire from the relay cannot get 12 volts from wire at all.
If you can get the bike to run you put your finger over the gas line you feel no sucking from the hose and then the bike will die,we put the tank on a gravity feed bottle nothing, the darn thing will not run at all.
I really HELP PLEASE HELP ME
Thank you, Jason

Re: 85 VF700F Interceptor Problem

ok, ensure you have good grounds on your bike, check all grounding points for cleaness, i would remove the bolts where the wire grounds to like the engine, frame exc. and clean it with a little sand paper. your getting voltage but sounds like a weak ground.

also, check the fuel filter and tank screen for blockages, take compressed ait and reverse blow through the tank from the fuel lines.

or....remove the fuel pump and place a slightly larger fuel line in place and run it without the pump, you'll be fine because it realy doesn't need it...all your choice, i'll check back.

Re: 85 VF700F Interceptor Problem

Hey Thank You for the response I will definatly give that a shoot. The only question I have is in reguards to the larger fuel line,You said to replace the line with a larger one,but where do I attach the line to and from ? And the reason I would not need the pump is because the fuel in the tank will provide the pressure (flow) that I would need is that correct ?
Thank You,
Jason

Re: 85 VF700F Interceptor Problem

i know of guys that have done away with the fuel pump, and still hitting redline.

before you do remove it, you said you replaced the fuel pump relay?
mind you there are 2 relays for the fuel pump, the cut-off and the one next to it. clean the connectors with dielectric cleaner also. also, you may want to check the rectifier box.

but if you do remove the pump, connect the new line from the tank output to the carbs with a new inline filter.
