| Value of VFR Can anyone tell me the value of a '98 VFR 750? Right now the starter is toast and there is some plastic damage on the right side. Other than the starter the bike is in good running condition. Has aftermarket exhaust. D&D I believe.
Anyone? |

| Re: Value of VFR One of the latest Motorcycle Consumer News issues had the lastest bike values. Your value is going to be less than that if the bike doesn't start/run. Minor plastic wear & tear dings aren't usually an issue but if there's more damage than that, well, you won't get what you're asking.
I'll look tonight for the value from MCN if you'd like and I'll post it. |

Anyone? | Are you sure it is a 98? The VFR went to 800ccs in 98. If it is a 97, the damage would bring it down to about $2500. If the miles are high, subtract another $500. Sorry, but that is it. I know because I am selling my 94 right now. |

| Re: Value of VFR Acid -
Are you buying or selling?
If Selling, you need to get the starter replaced and look for some cheap plastics on ebay. (And get rid of the D&D, or sell it separately)
Buying? Look for a really clean, well documented, well - maintained bike with as few mods as possible.
You can get a feel for the market by checking - http://www.vfrads.com http://www.vfrdiscussion.com http://www.vfrworld.com - Ulewz' board, I think..
These have classified sections, and http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~lists/archive/vfr/
Is a huge archive of threads from " the vfrlist". I think you can subscribe from that site.
Pics and mileage would help us help you. |

| Re: Value of VFR After looking through the links posted by CBRVFR (thank you very much) it looks like there is quite a price range. (oh - for the record, I am looking to buy a second bike) The prices I found ranged from $3900 to $4999 for the '97 VFR. Of course all of these start.
I guess I'll just have to see what the guy wants for it before I start the whole bidding process.
Thanks for you help. |

Nothing from Nigeria, though.... |

| Re: Value of VFR Actually the board that I am affiliated with is www.VFRDiscussion.com
The prices you saw seem a little high. I check the local recycler almost daily, and you should be able to pick up a 97 for much less. Maybe the prices here in So. Cal are a little lower. I would also check out www.cycletrader.com |

| Re: Value of VFR Quote: Originally posted by CBRVFR Ulewz, since your '94 is pretty much identical to a '97, can you give us a rundown on what it's got and what you're asking? | I am working a deal to sell it to a good friend for only $3,000. He is going to take it home and see if his wife totally freaks. It has the following:
Fox TC shock
Progressive fork springs
Fender bobbed
RK chain
Cheetah windscreen
EBC HH brakes (new in box)
M1 Sportec tires (new, uninstalled).
Upgraded R/R
Corbin seat with back rest
Micron Carbon fiber slipon
Gel grips
Push-to-talk switch integrated into electronics on left clip on
Braded brake lines
The only negative is the high miles (45,000), but the V4 engine is good to over double that easy. |

I have a pal with well over 150,000 on his '92 Viffer (same motor) and it's still humming along. You'd NEVER know it has that sort of milage on it unless you knew the bike. |

| Re: Value of VFR Okay - here is a little more info. I know this is a little on the slow side, but I have been emailing about the bike, so it takes longer.
One thing is that the owner of the bike is my brother-in-law. I don't want to try to low-ball him just because he is family. I don't do business that way. Just because I am family doesn't mean that he owes me any huge discounts or anything. At the same time, I don't want to just hand him the moon either. Know what I mean?
He said he is wanting $4k to $4.5k for it, depending on how much the problem with the starter not engageing ends up costing. $4k as is if I want to risk the repair. I just sent him an email asking about the mileage and other after market parts other than the pipe. We'll see what he says.
Anyone know how much it would cost to replace the starter on a VFR? |

Anyone know how much it would cost to replace the starter on a VFR? | Anyone know the value of family harmony? I'd take a pass on buying this one, as it seems there are better ones available for much less, and selling used vehicles within the family is the essence of dysfunction..But I would offer to replace the starter WITH him, so he could sell it to someone else. |

| Re: Value of VFR I know several owners of 94-97's that had starter clutch engagement problems after switching to certain synthetic oils. It's a common occurence.
You might quiz him about this, and if it's a possibility, then try doing an oil change.....bump start it and run it for awhile.
Disclaimer:
Not trying to start an oil thread here.....this is a serious post.

Price is way high for a non-runner with plastic damage. I'd pass and I like the idea of helping him get it running to sell it.
$2500 sounds about right for what was describled. I'm not saying he can't fine the *right* buyer for the bike but I would not want to be that *right buyer*. |
