| Just got my 1998 VFR yesterday. w00t! So I guess I am officially a "bike guy" now with two bikes in the stable. =)
I got my CBR954 and it's a great bike, light and fast. The 954 just isn't great for longer trips and I wasn't sure I wanted a cruiser. I rode a 2008 VFR last year and liked it a lot.
I just bought this 1998 VFR yesterday. The high mount looks nice but it sure is LOUD! Planned upgrades are a Sargent seat and some type of larger wind screen. Perhaps some Helibars. I know a guy that has Helibars on his 2001 model that I can try out.

The Pre-Vtec VFRs I am told were the best ever VFRs manufactured... You have bagged a nice one too!

Ride Safe | I agree, usually all new bikes I always like better, but in this case I actually like the 98's better.. |

Ride Safe | I've also heard that. If I had the money I'd go for a 98-01 pre-vtec also.
that thing looks sweet and I bet sounds awesome on the pipe. |

The stock seat is a LOT better than the one on my 954. I am thinking that I will still replace it with a Sargent though. I sat on an 01 that had a Sargent seat on Tuesday and it was very nice!
This bike is exactly what I expected. The ride is silky smooth. The engine has enough butt to scoot it on down the rode. The riding position is more upright, yet still sporty. And I think the looks are damned sexy.
I still love my 954, but it has a different purpose. Now I have a delemia. Next trip to Deals Gap do I take the CBR or the VFR? It's a 4-5 hour ride just to get there. |

Either keep stopping every hour or so on the 954RR to stretch my legs & then for fuel or only stop to get fuel when on the VFR as its so comfortable. Quote:

You could also get manufactured "univeral" baffles which you could bolt on...?

| Re: Just got my 1998 VFR yesterday. w00t! Saturday I took a ride that lasted about 5 hours total. I got off the bike at the end of the day with no ill effects. As far as just riding, it's really comfortable. I feel like I could go all day.
I did get the Sargent seat like I stated before. It's an improvement over the stock one, but the original wasn't really that bad either. Overall I would say it was worth the price if a person is going to keep the bike for a while. |

The high-level Micron must have sounded nice - I thought they would have eliminated the use of the rear pegs so I never looked into them.

| Re: Just got my 1998 VFR yesterday. w00t! It was a great machine, never had an issue for 16k miles, oil gas and tires is about all I spent on it. I think you've made an excellent buy, I'm amazed how good that 98 looks. Generally VFR's are very well taken care of. Perfect 2nd bike to a supersport, wish I could've kept it! |
