help with VF1100c

Hi,
I picked up a VF1100c today.

I noticed the forks are leaking and upon closer inspection, found that the new seals are not the issue, the fork itself are pitted. It looks like grains of sand might have been stuck inside the boot for years and eventually made the gashes on the tube.

Now what to do ? rebuild the forks with new inner tubes ? change for another used one ? or get entirely new forks ?

And what about aftermarket forks ? Would it be easier to try and find a new forks, even change for inverted fork ?

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Cheers,
LIV

Back in the oldern days we used to remove the pits by using wire wool and wd40. Depending how bad they have pitted, you might be able to salvage them.

I would be inclined to re-build them, replacing parts if and when needed.

One more question, whats the best way to clean up the chrome somewhat.. without re-chroming it.. i'd like to clean it up, remove some of the rust gently.

Autosol? Beware, too much polishing could actually lift the chrome off.

Hi,
thanks for the reply.. will do

Another question,
Anybody knows if I can replace these forks for another model of forks or which years / models are compatible ?
Like can i use the vf1100s ( saber ) forks ? or the vf750c ? of the same years ? or anyone know of an aftermarket one ?

Cheers!
