Taking the big step

Hi guys.

I'm really considering trading in my 2000 929 for a new 2003 919. I'd have to dish out only 2500$ CND to make the deal. I would save at least a grand each year on insurance.

Has anyone made a similar switch ? How do you think I will like it ? I like agressive canyon carving and street hooliganism. I know the 2003 dosen't have the adjustable forks... is a CBR fork swap easy to do and does it improve the suspension alot ? I don't think I'll miss the power of the 929 that much, but handling is my main concern.

Any comment is welcome. Thx.

If you do this, I'll be interested to see how you like it. I like the 919, but the bars and gauges remind me too much of my '73 CB360. Why couldn't honda have given it a neater looking tank, cockpit, and bars?

then again, that's exactly why i like the 919...no digital dash and a great lookin tank...to each his own...

the fork F4i fork swap is easy...the rc-51 front end swap is a bit more involved...checkin on the 929/954 front end swaps, couple folks have done it

the F4i forks just give you more adjustability...plus u can get them sprung properly prior to install (the stock 919 springs are too light imho)...and yes it helps the front end but it is no radical improvement over the 02-03 sticks (later yrs had some adjustment options)

add some clipons or a drag/dirtbike bar and you're in good shape

Re: Taking the big step

I've been seriously thinking of doing the same thing. Selling my Y/B 2000 929 and buying a Matt Uranium 04 919. My roommate has the silver 919, and I've ridden from time to time... really nice bike.

Re: Taking the big step

there are a lot of topics on swapping or even upgrading the 919's front end on project919.com there is tons of other information on the 919 there...

I'm about to just upgrade my 919's suspension with race tech gold valves & springs and an Ohlins rear shock.

here is a picture of me & my 919, who says you can't ride a naked bike hard.... canyon carving fun!!!

Re: Taking the big step

I sold my 929 to buy a race bike.

Then bought a 2004 919. I recently took it to the ozarks and ran it around some nice twisty roads, and I gotta say I love it.

I did, however find the stock seating position a little upright for me, so I slapped on some suburban machinery bars and some sato rear sets.

I love the 919. Cheap fun! It's easy on the insurance bill also, as its not a "sportbike".
