| Tipping Switch?? I laid down my 2002 919 last week while I was turning. Right in the middle of Michigan Avenue in Chicago...gotta love it. Anyway, it slid mostly on the alternator cover (I think it's also called a stator cover) but it wont start. When I was depressing the start button it made a clicking noise like the starter was trying to fire but not quite making it. I ended up running out the battery. Can anyone tell me if there is some sort of automatic shutoff somewhere that I need to reset...or a tipping switch of some sort?
Thanks to anyone that can help me out. |

| Re: Tipping Switch?? Ha! Thanks man, I'll check it out. But yeah, I gotta little road rash, nothing really though...I laid into it in first and just hit a grease stain that sent the ass end of the bike flying and, ufortunately, me too. I pushed the thing home since I was only about 4 blocks away from the crib. Man it sucked though!! |

| Re: Tipping Switch?? try cycling the kill switch a few times. that usually gets the tip over sensor to reset.

| Re: Tipping Switch?? Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes, then plugging it back in and trying to fire the engine? Sometimes you can clear out codes from sensors by doing this. |

| Re: Tipping Switch?? Didn't work, but i figured out what it was, the pinion that gives transmission from the starter motor, to the attack pinion of the starter clutch have a shaft that guides it through, i left the bike a long time sitted on the sidestand with the cap off, so i guess the bike moved and the pin came off, i don't have a pin, and there's no one here where i live that has the original spare part for the bike (just what i needed) jajaja! I'd like to know if someone had that pin measured, or knows a link that has the pin measures, it's a dowel pin with a hole in the middle i think it's build of stainless steel 10-14, i'll have to make one here but i'd like to know a few things first, like if it turns with the pinion, or if just the pinion turns and the pin stands. Maybe somebody knows about this! Thanks in advance.
I'll post a picture, maybe it'll help a little to make myself clear. |

| Re: Tipping Switch?? The owners manual states that if the bike has been tipped over, fallen over, the tip over sensor shuts down the ignition. To restart the bike, you must turn the ignition key to the off position for aprox 5 seconds before turning it back to the on position. This resets the system and the bike will start normally.
