What should I do to my bike?

I know that I want to modify on my bike a bit to make it 'mine' but I was wondering if there are any mods that some of you other 919 owners out there think are absolutely neccessary to do first to a new 919.

Let me know what you think could be done to this bike that Honda didn't do.

Also let me know about the mods you did and wish you hadn't done (or the ones you swear by).

Thanks

Re: What should I do to my bike?

The first mod I did on my 919 was steel braided brake lines. They make a world of difference.

Aftermarket exhausts 4 life!
With stock exhausts she sounds like an electric engine

And I'm just about replacing the front sprocket with a smaller one. I heard that turns her on

Re: What should I do to my bike?

I picked up an '06 919 last summer. Since then I've added Pazo levers (shorties), Sato slip-ons, CRG bar end mirrors, and Motovation frame sliders. I really love the look and sound of the Satos.

But my favorite mod so far are the CRG mirrors. I really didn't like the look of the stock mirrors and they gave me a great view of my shoulders and elbows The CRG bar end mirrors look better and work better.

So far I haven't done any mods that I don't like.

Still in the box for addition before Spring: Renthal Ultra Low bars, Power Commander III, CW Fender Eliminator, and Sargent seat.

Next Winter I'll consider some Galfer lines and JetHot treatment for the headers.

Re: What should I do to my bike?

Replace the front springs, get some lower handlebars, exhaust (Yoshimura TRS sounds surprisingly good), SS brake lines, mirrors.
That should be enough for now

Re: What should I do to my bike?

Its not much of a visual statement but stiffer fork springs w/ 10W oil and a new shock are easily the best mods to do. No more wallowing and she will track great on the longest of on ramps. Oh, and remove the curb feelers from the foot pegs.

No 2 best mod is slip on. Totally visual, and aural (I think that is the right word)

Re: What should I do to my bike?

I got a fender eliminator, and I removed disabled the flapper in the airbox for more intake flow, and removed my stock exhaust baffles. I noticed it has more linear power (not as much of a surge) and sounds much better.

future mods (when i get home from Iraq): getting rid of that awful looking headlight, crg barend mirrors, smaller turn signals, proximity alarm, and power commander

Re: What should I do to my bike?

I just finished doing a few upgrades.... Fender Eliminator for the back end, new stainless brake lines, new front turn signals, Yoshimura Tri-Oval Carbon Fiber exhausts, powder coat the front trim pieces and the sides of the engine case in matte black, and still more to come... I hope to put up a picture soon to show how the yoshimura's look along with the rest of the upgrades.

Re: What should I do to my bike?

Hello all... first post, but I have similar questions to what's on this thread, so I'm giving it a bump.

I'm also interested in changing exhaust on my 919. I'm looking for something deeper, not necessarily louder.

About once a month I happen to be leaving work when a guy on a newer VFR800 goes by me as I'm walking to my truck. Don't know what kind of pipes he has on that, but those pipes with his v-4 sound spectacular. Not overly loud, but a really rich rumble when he opens it up. I'd swear it was a Mustang 302 V8 if I had my eyes closed. Not sure if you can really duplicate that with an I4, but I'd like to get as close to that sound as possible.

Anyone have recommendations to which would give the deepest range? Sato, Yoshi, TwoBrothers, Leo Hines, other?

Re: What should I do to my bike?

I'll tell you, my Yoshimura Tri-Ovals sounds AWESOME! Nice chirp sound at high RPM, like at 10,000 it will turn heads, but at the same time, when I'm around town at 4,000 rpm they sounds good, but quieter, so the police don't even give me a second look.
I'm looking into bar end mirrors, because my stock style ones keep coming loose when I'm riding. I've read a few people saying that they like them, but anyone have anything bad to say about them, or all those who have them like 'em?

Re: What should I do to my bike?

list of mods? i know yosh probably makes the nicest set of pipes, but i went with two brother's 'stash' design. their manufacturing skills arent's all that great, but... check 'em out at twobros.com. takes the stock exhaust right before the third cat and reroutes all the exhaust out of the right side. another pipe clamps on and you slip on a falsie, looks just like the functional side, but unlocks with a key. not too much room, but easily holds a can of monster, cell phone, camera, keys, etc. kinda cool. first things first though? turn signals. fender eliminator. replaced the front sprocket with one less tooth, rear sprocket with two more teeth. red chain looks bitchin' when new, but now is filthy. if you've got the gold calipers, yank 'em off, tape off the pistons and get some high temp matte black paint. while you're at it, replace the lines with stainless steel. also got the LED taillight with integrated turn signals(sweet!) but, my pride and joy, my hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind, intake scoop. because the intake on the 919 is facing backwards, almost blocked off completely by that little trim piece, i bought a spare intake, i dunno what you call it, the thing that bolts onto the airbox? with that vacuum actuated valve? i dunno. cut off most of it so i could still screw it onto the airbox, but JB welded on a piece of pvc plumbing pipe, only facing forward, bondo'ed the hell out of it and painted it to match. even put a little screen on the front. didnt do very much, cost TOO much, and kinda hits my shin and knee while riding, but, hey, had never seen it done before.
anyone want to buy a set of OEM exhaust cans? i need to get a power commander now.

Just to show you what can be done to a 919 (besides the badass EMA 919 and the Roland Sands 919), here are some photos of mine:

Right now the whole front end is off. . .I'm retrofitting an RC51 inverted fork with Brembo radial calipers/1000RR rotors conversion.

The CRG ones are nice and if you get the larger ones positioned well they are still useable. The Bar-ens ones are better for visibility but less aesthetically pleasing IMHO. Try blue loctite on your OEMs.

Here are the latest photos of my 919 with the RC51 SP2 front end installed. The key components for this conversion are the custom riser upper triple clamp and the 929RR/954RR bottom triple clamp with the retrofitted 919 steering stem. The triple clamp work was done by Mike at Full Throttle Inc. (fullthrottleinc.com). I decided not to do the Brembos. . . the 954RR/RC51 calipers are plenty strong for the 919. Wheel is an RC51 SP1 6-spoke to match the 900RR rear. Rotors are '06 1000RR and the carbon fiber front fender is an '07 600RR.

You have to cut them out. . .search for "bafflelectomy" (sp?) or 919 baffle removal.
