| inverted fork options??? I am thinking about getting a set of inverted forks from a 954 or 929 and trying to get them on my 919? i think it's bull that the 599 comes with them but not the 919?!?!? guess honda wanted selling points for both bikes.
anyway, what would i have to go through to get this done?
new triples?
wheel and axle?
brake calipers?
fender?
bars? |

| Re: inverted fork options??? I use a shop in Woodland . They coated my frame on my race quad for 125.00 . They usually dont advertise the service , a guy that works there does it on the side because they coat their products at the factoy .
I think there is a place in Tacoma off pacific , not too far from the bus / train station. That might be a little closer for you ! |

| Re: inverted fork options??? Hello ,
The reasons are plenty .
Most every part on the 954rr is lighter than the 919.
The brakes go from 289mm to 330mm , some of the biggest on a stock bike out there . Most bikes have 320mm . 954 front wheel is lighter than the 919 . My front end conversion is complete with clutch perch and reservoir with master cylinder ( both also lighter than the 919 ) . Rc51 upper clamp is lighter than the 919.
As for the valving , I plan to have the forks revalved with racetech golds and new springs once the project is closer to completion .
I dont have an exact calculation yet but a rough number ( will post an exact later ) is around 7.5 lbs lost in conversion . That is a big weight savings !
Of course pics will follow once project is done !
Thanks

| Re: inverted fork options??? I am going to go with the respring and valves but best of luck on your swap.
I wish I had the balls, skill and cash to do the swap myself.
I think the best reason for the swap is looks. It seems shallow but damn it looks good. It may even be bad for handlimng as it can overwhelm the square backbone frame but I would not care. Radial brakes would be cool but a huge .50mm pair of WP's would be ubercool. |

| Re: inverted fork options??? Hello ,
Here is some pics of the forks and brakes from a 03-04 954rr on my 02 919.
You will need to get the forks , lower triple , stem , axle , rotors , wheel , wheel spacers , and calipers from a 929 or 954 . You will need a upper triple from a RC51 , due to its flat surface to mount dirt bike bar mounts . Either 7/8 or 1-1/4 bars your choice . Just in case you were wondering , the 954 929 upper triple tapers down to the stem nut as the RC51 is flat across .
You will need to have a machine shop press the 954 stem from the lower triple and add one and a quarter inches to the total length of the stem .
Once they have added the material machined to the proper diameter and re-pressed the stem , it will bolt right up to the 919 with the original stem bearings . While the lower triple is at the machine shop , have them drill and tap the steering frame stops to accomodate some bolts .
If you choose to not have this done the triple WILL hit with your gas tank .
Also bring your upper rc51 triple because they will need to drill holes for the handle bar mounts , one centered on each side of the stem hole . Bring your 919 ignition because it will not bolt up to the RC51 triple without a tapered machine job on the ignition port in the RC51 upper triple .
You will have to fab up some brackets for the guages . If you get this far I will send you some close up pics.
As for handling and braking power , awesome difference !!
Revalving and new fork springs are a must . I run racetech gold kit set up for my 919's weight and my 215lbs . You will find the stock spring and valving to be waaay to soft and unstable .
If you need anything else , just ask ! http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...7/919forks.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...9controls2.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e.../919rtside.jpg |

2002 954 forks ( ebay ) 2002 rc51 front wheel ( ebay )
2002 954 calipers ( ebay )
2002 954 triple clamp ( ebay )
spiegler type gl upper clamp ( $299 @ spieglerusa.com )
art 954rr carbon fiber front fender
galfer 954 front rotors | I have the 954 forks and RC51 front wheel on my 95 900RR. Although the 954 3 spoke wheel is a direct bolt up, the SP1 (6 spoke) and SP2 (5 spoke) RC51 wheel is not. The reason is that the RC51 wheel uses a 20mm axle and the 954 uses a 25mm axle.
So, the process is that you need to press out the 954 bearings and remove the center collar. Buy a 929/954 center collar and some new 929/954 bearings. Take an file (or dremel tool) and file off about 3mm from the collar. Take the dremel tool and open out the hub just enough to slide the wider 954 collar into the hub.
Make sure that the collar sits flush (not proud) of the hub face where the bearing will sit. Press the bearing in on the non-seat side, flip the wheel over, insert the collar (don't forget!!!!) and then press the other bearing in.
Now, as I have found, as well as some others who have done the RC51 wheel on their 929/954 forks, you will need to machine off approx 1.5mm from the left side spacer, and have a new right side spacer manufactured at a machine shop with approx. 1.5mm added (should cost no more than about $30). The reason this is needed is that the RC51 wheel needs to be moved over to the left a little in order that the rotors are centered in the calipers.
To get the exact measurement, fit the wheel up with the rotors fitted, tighten up the axle bolt but don't put the wheel spacers in. Put the pads in and clamp the brake lever (use a vencro strap to hold the level closed). This will center the rotors in the calipers. Use a vernier caliper depth gauge to measure the distance on the right side between the fork leg and the face of the right side bearing. Record the measurement and then do the same for the left side. Then, compare those measurements to the width of the 929/954 wheel spacers. That will give you the new meaurement for the wheel spacers.
I moved my wheel over 1.5mm and that was adequate top center the rotor in the caliper. I urge you to measure for yourself as your rotor thickness may vary on your own bike, thus affecting the measurement.
I have had my bike at over 220kmh (on a closed course!!) and have found ZERO issues with this setup. My bike tracks straight as an arrow, has no vibrations and has awesome brakes. You might however want to get a 929 master cylinder (it was bigger than the 954's) to help with clamping the 330mm rotors. I am still using the 900rr master with no issues.
Hope this helps! IMO, the 6 spoke RC51 SP1 or the 5 spoke SP2 wheels look a whole heap better than the 3 spoke 929/954 wheel.
Cheers,
Sime |

| Re: inverted fork options??? About the RC51 wheel , you are right . I ended up selling it back on ebay and buying a 954 wheel . I also returned the speigler upper triple and modified the stock RC51 upper triple .
I plan to eventually purchase some aftermarket wheels , but that will be after the 954 engine swap. ( yes I know it wont just bolt in ) I have a friend that has been a professional welder for 18 years . |

| Re: inverted fork options??? Well, after reading an article on 'rider weight/fork oil volume' I added 2cc of fork oil (I weigh 185 lbs.) to each fork on the stock 919 forks and they calmed right down so I'm leaving them alone for now. Made a huge difference. Huge as in 'they don't scare me anymore'. |

When these pics were taken, those Bridgestone BT-002 tires are fresh off the garage floor. . .the bike was rolled outside for the first time after the latest mods with new tires. So not even the middle has been scrubbed! |
