new to forum: need handlebar info

Hello all,

I'll be picking up my new (to me) '03 919 either today or tomorrow weather permitting. I bought it knowing I would want a more aggressive position with the handlebars. It seems like suburban machinery is going to have the most aggressive position, but I've seen a couple mentions of the renthal ultra low bars. How do they compare? Also, will the cabling length be of any trouble when installing these (brake lines etc) or can I stick with stock lines?

I'll take any comments! Thanks!

Here is a list of various handlebars and their dimensions in millimeters. You can choose which one would suit your riding style. The Renthal Ultra lows and Coerce are popular choices. Another fine choice is Rizoma.

--------------------Width mm--------Rise mm-----Pullback mm

Stock 919-------------660-------------102------------190
Coerce----------------690------------- 30-------------100
Renthal Ultra lows------725-------------75--------------95
Renthal Streetfighter---755-------------100-------------80
AFAM superbike--------730--------------80-------------80
LSL Sport Tourer-------680--------------45------------110
LSL superbike lows-----740--------------50------------140
LSL superbike----------760--------------70------------150
Suburban Machienry----685--------------50------------120
Rizoma Conical or Std.--720------------- 75------------105

The stock lines will not be a problem. I have the Renthal Ultra Lows and like them a lot. The lower position seems more natural and cornering just feels smoother. And the agressive posture just feels right on a streetfighter.

Welcome to the forum!

Re: new to forum: need handlebar info

Thank for the info Ken! Very nice chart.

Ok so help me read this. Looks to me like Coerce is more aggressive than Suburban Machinery. Based on both a lower Rise (grip height from where it fastens to the fork?) and less pullback (grip distance away from the fork?) Does that sound correct?

One thing I noticed is the SMs also have the angled clip on look while the Coerce look pretty straight bar. Speaking of straighbars, I also added the BikeMaster DragBars as a possibility. I am considering doing bar end mirrors too. This might work out better with straighter bars

BikeMaster DragBars would like this on the chart:

-------------------Width mm--------Rise mm-----Pullback mm
Stock 919-------------660-------------102------------190
Bikemaster DragBars---711.2------------97.5------------0

I found a Kaw forum that has pictures of all three, though obviously they are of Kaws (ninja 650s to be exact) but it gives a pretty good idea of the looks. i need handlebars - 650R, ER6 @ KawiForums.com

I'd love some opinions!

Re: new to forum: need handlebar info

Personally, I wouldn't want anything wider than the Ultra Lows. With my height and arm length, I'm sure it would get uncomfortable quickly. There are a bunch of people that even take a bit off each side of the Renthals. And if you add bar end mirrors on there, you have a seriously wide machine. I'd have to guess that the most popular bars on the 919 are the Renthal Ultra Lows and the ones by Suburban Machinery.

Re: new to forum: need handlebar info

Really appreciate the info Ken, its been helpful. Can you confirm for me that the Coerce would be more agressive than the Suburban Machinerys? I just wanna make sure I'm not crazy.

I'm 6'2 with monkey arms so I dont think itll be a problem.

Re: new to forum: need handlebar info

I put TAG dirt bike bars with the cross brace, made for a KX80 on mine. Work great all the way around and don't vibrate.

Cool Tag bars , I was considering just finding some dirtbike bars I liked but was worried I could not see the gauges.

Thanks for the info on all the different bars.
