Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

Just got through wearing out some Battleaxes BT014's and didn't like them. Got 3000 miles out of them.
They are too hard and edgy their whole life.
The 919 likes any of the Michelin Power Pilots including the touring model (best mileage). They are stickier, softer and keep their traction right down to the threads! This week I'm going back to the Michelins.

Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

I have asked this question on other sites but have yet to get a definitive answer. I just fitted a Pilot road on the front and now I get a howl, wooshing
sound. Is this normal? I checked that all the mountings are torqued correctly and the tire is at 36psi. I am wondering if it is a function of the tires tread bars completly crossing the tires causing pressure pulses that interact with the fender.
Anyone?

Thanks
John

Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

I'm also looking for tires for my 919. Trying to decide between the Pilot Roads (sport touring) and Pilot Powers (sport). I have a price of $300 (installed) for the Roads and I think I may go with them. They get GREAT reviews for handling, grip, durability, and rain handling.

Bigbear. I get the same wooshing howl from D208's, after checking everything I've just decided it's normal for the bike/tire combination...but I am curious if others here get it from their tires. My next tires will be Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, probably with a 120/65 front.

Everyone seems to think a Pilot Road on the back and a Pilot Power on the front is the best combo...

Just to throw in my two cents my '03 came with pilot roads on it and I was able to get 6500 miles out of them..... don't ask me how. I then went to pilot powers and I personally loved the performance they put out.

I just switched up from the stock sneakers to Pilot Roads. Nice tire. No noise. Very predictable. From everything I've read, a great combination of grip and durability.

Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

I had the pilots before didn't like them JMO. I have Perrelli Diablo Sport on there now and love them 3200K on them and there just getting borderline now for replacement. They have great rain traction, awesome dry traction, very bad cold weather traction (35 degrees or less). I have a 520 conversion with 15T up front and 48T in the rear. These tires grip great on hard acceleration! They were I think(I'm getting older and my memory sometimes fails me) around $108 for the front and $158 for the rear on the internet. Then I cost $50 to have them mounted and balanced. Hope that helps. Again its just what Ive found to be the better tire. Also if it makes a difference on the tires I weight about 205lbs. Hope it helps!

Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

The guy that owns the little shop that mounts and balances my tires ($16.95 each) has the same Diablo Sports and says they are great dual compound tires. The Pilot Powers are average in the rain and don't like gravel on the road AT ALL!

His shop feeds off of stunt riders and ATV guys but they take care of everyone and he can ride the rims off of anything so I believe him.

Re: 919 tire selection / recommadations

I have Pilot Powers and they are made for the bike! I would imagine the softer Races are even stickier. They are made for each other. With the steering damper on mine it is rock solid no matter what you do to it. Just amazes me every time out...now.
