| Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 I have a Hornet 919 date 2002 for Asia market-where the law limit speed under 180 km/h.
While the one for European can go maximum 260km/h (see pictures).
Anybody have ideas how to derestrict the limitter in my bike.
Thanks so much for your helping

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 Perhaps others can confirm, but is the 180 kmh limit mechanical, or simply that the gauge itself won't display anything beyond? If it's just the gauge, swap the Asian one out for the Euro, or North American one. If it's mechanical, someone else would need to help out beyond me. |

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 Another solution that I'm thinking to use the speedohealer to convert from km to miles. When I go at 100 m/h the signal send to ECM only 100km/h it mean I can go maxinum 180 m/h -> 180x1.6 = 288 km/h SpeedoHealer - Electronic Speedometer and Odometer calibrator for motorcycles
I write an email to the techinal engineer of speedohealer for asking
And this is his answer Hello,
Yes, if you enable the SH''s "kph to mph" conversion mode, e.g. 140 indicated
on your meter will mean 140 mph road speed.
Probably it will also by-pass the speed limiter.
However, we do not have information on whether there is another kind of
restiction (e.g. HP) on this bike for the Asian market.
Kind Regards,
/Norbert

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 I imagine if anything it's an ECU limiter installed, so you can probably buy a north am or euro ECU, swap it out (probably want the gauges too) and blamo, no limiter. |

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 The RC51 in North America had a soft rev limiter before the hard limit was reached. That mod listed was to get rid of the soft rev portion. This is not the same as restricted bike. |

Another problem : if I change km/h to m/h by speedohealer. Is it enough air/fuel for engine beacause when we in 100 m/h the ECU only think 100 km/h so it will only send air/fuel at 100km/h. |

When i later went to the local Honda shop, they stood back and told me i cant get a key made for it, and that i would firstly have to buy and change the complete brain (including the ecu) as you cannot get another key cut - HISS system. The brain would cost me £1000 new or £400 2nd hand.
Dont know about the limiter as mine is in MPH. |

Your air/fuel should be controlled by RPM and O2 input so changing the speed reading shouldn't have an impact.
I would think that by far the best way to go about this would be to get a non-asian market ECU as suggested above.

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 Hi, I'm in Japan and have similar questions. I am sure the dealer can help out as they do this mod for other Japanese/asian models to open there full potential .
My hornet has a CB900F on the rear fender which from what I have read means it was reimported from Canada (as they don't sell the CB900F and CB600F in Japan), which would mean it shouldn't be restricted , but the speedo only goes up to 180kmh so I am not sure. I have noticed that 4500 revs in 6th gear is about 140kmh. So if I do the math it should go pretty quick if your red lining. So will need to check this out and get back to you .... |

I talked to the dealer and he will do it for me. As it is illegal to do in Japan he cant give too much detail. but it does require changing the Airbox and mufflres and a wire splice on the ECM loom. I guess when it is done I will get the parts list and can then tell you what I had to purchase. And then get some shots of the splice etc and just reverse engineer the thing? The chain etc are all ok and dont need replacing.
Unfortunately I will wait until after the Japanese MOT (Shaken) before I mod the bike as it is impossible to reregister mod'ed bikes. This will happen in November and then I will do the mod and have 2 years before it needs MOT again. sorry you probably need it now .....
It is expensive mufflers / airbox (but I was getting mufflers anyway. I guess it is about $300 dollars for the parts excluding the muffler. |

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 Thanks so much 6pak for your information
I think it have something to restrict air intake and exhaust pipe so that we need to change airbox and muffler
I think they change stock airbox to KN filter for better air flow.
The important in the splice wire.which wire will change postion in ECM?I 'll post my ECM pics in next topic
Still wait your answer maybe after November
Thanks again
P/s how about the speedo metter.Do you need replace new one with max 260km/h?

| Re: Need derestrict speed in Hornet 919 If I were you,I only buy speedo healer to convert from kph to mph.It 's cheaper than buying new Euro speedo metter
Could somebody help me by posting your pics of ECM connector (gray & black)?Maybe I 'll find some wire different with mine.
Help me please. |
