Total Newb question

Salutations all,
I just got a 2002 919 :-) , just finished the motorcycle safety course :-), and just ran my battery down :-(

Stupid question one: Where PRECISELY is the battery on a 919 located? I've read it is under the seat, but, being completely ignorant about things like this... I probably wouldn't recognize it if someone threw it at me!

Stupid question two: I have a charger that goes from a car cigarette charger to the battery. How long do I need to charge it before I'm good to go?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Total Newb question

remove the seat

remove the right side cover ( you'll need a 5mm allen wrench )

the battery is held in place by a rubber strap

do yourself a favor and download the Honda 919 Manual PDF file...the link is posted here in a recent thread

not sure what kind of battery charger you have plugged into a car lighter? but it doesn't sound like the best setup...consider buying a battery tender for $15-$39. It will charge and maintain the battery. (typical time to charge can range from 1.5 - 5 hrs depending on charging amps/rate )

Ratdog... You are a gentleman and a scholar! I actually figured it out before reading this reply, but it was a great description! I hope it helps some other joker (like me!) that is clueless. Thanks again!

Re: Total Newb question

Rhythmchanges,

Nice to see a new face, and also see another Hornet owner. Try and keep the battery topped up with charge (should be gel so a little better than acid ones) You can buy an optimiser for example i have an optimate sp3 and also an accumate which trickle charge the battery slowly and also maintain it once its reached a safe level. have a look on ebay and in your local shops for one.

If you need any more help just ask us (e.g. make a thread - no matter how silly) and we will do what we can.

Take care

Re: Total Newb question

yo Rhythm, let me know how ur battery situation goes. I got a 05 919, and the battery died on me last week. charged it up on the battery bender until it showed green. and it died on me again a day after the charge. so im thinking its a dead cell... either that or ill have to take it in to get the charging system checked (anyone got experience checking the charging system for 919?)
