Frame slider questions

I've been thinking about getting some frame sliders for my 919. My question is how much damage do they prevent? I've heard that a non-moving drop is still going to cause damage. Has anybody here droppped (moving or not) a 919 with sliders? And how much damage was there?

Re: Frame slider questions

Plenty of people have. The best slider protection seems to come from the 2nd Gen Motovation sliders. Pics and testimonials can be found over on Wrist Twisters Performance where there are literally hundreds of 919 riders.

Re: Frame slider questions

Personally I think it's pot luck how much damage having sliders prevents causes.

On average I think they will reduce the chances of serious damage but have known them to dig into soft ground and somersault the bike causing a LOT more damage in the process.

You pays your money you takes your chances

Re: Frame slider questions

Most people I ride with leave the sliders on for street riding but remove them for the track or street racing. Popeye is right, the slider may save your plastic (if the bolt holding the slider on doesn't bust) but if you lay the bike down at any kind of speed and it catches on something, dirt, grass, mud, etc...you could end up watching your 919 fly, literally.

I must say though, it was really cool when I tipped my CBR F4 over in the garage and the bike didn't get a scratch on it.

Re: Frame slider questions

motivationusa sliders in the US and LOS bobbins from the UK

these are the best options for the 919

Sato has just released a 'revised' set of sliders that look to be every bit as good as the above mentioned products, think LDH was checking some bobbin sizing b4 final release of the product (kyleusa.com)

sliders at the track are key...u gotta protect the cases, can't be spillin fluids all over the track and ruin everyone else's day

sure sliders can cause damage, especially some of questionable design but we're talkin downside risk and percentages here...i come down on the side of ride w/ rather than ride without

i can tell you that my sliders paid for themselves when i dropped the 9r off the side of a lift...ZERO damage

there are a few slider products to avoid and those products that have had 'issues' w/ the 919 are well documented...

feel free to drop by WT but rest assured, fireblades.org has you covered as well...so long as some of the old guard still keeps an eye on things

Re: Frame slider questions

powersstuntworx.com sells race railz. much better protection then the nylon or plastic polymer sliders. not a cage.. will not hurt your clearance..

Re: Frame slider questions

I actually had looped out on my '03 919 and the frame slider saved the frame from hitting but it torqued and cracked the engine block. I can't really say whether or not it caused or prevented more damage in a moving accident but if some jerk tips your bike over in the parking lot or you accidentally slip at a traffic light i know the sliders will keep the ground from scratching your tank.
