Need Help!--Mechanical

About a year ago I laid my '02 919 down on its left side. It didnt do much damage but it scraped up the alternator cover. I finally got around to ordering the part from Honda and went to work on replacing the cover and changing the oil. I pulled the drain plug and while the oil was draining, I took the bolts out of the alternator cover and pulled it off. I then had to take out the five screws that fasten the alternator to the cover. I did that, changed out the cover, re-mounted the alternator, put on a new gasket and put it all back together. I then changed the oil filter and refilled the resivior. When I tried to start the bike so I could fill up the filter and recheck the oil level, it just let out an electric whine and the oil light came on. I pushed started it thinking the oil pump just had to bring relubricate everything and when I rode it around the parking lot, i heard a sound coming from the alternor/clutch housing that sounded like a screw was loose and bouncing around. I took it all back apart again twice and found nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be or what I can do. And why you think the oil light is still on? Man, any help would be great. Thanks for reading this long ass post.

So when you tried to start it using the start button you just heard a whine? When you pull the cover it exposes the starter gear. Make sure that something didn't happen there. I would think that it coming disengaged somehow would explain the noise when you tried to start it.

The starter clutch assembly is also integrated into all of that.

Yeah...just an annoying whine that I translated to mean, "this is gonna cost alot of money."

Since I was hearing a rattle inside the housing, is it possible that something could have fallen out of either the clutch or the starter and into the bottom of it somehow? I didnt have all the right tools to take apart the clutch but i tried looking in the bottom and didnt see anything....
