Question on maintenance of 919

Hi,
I am planning to buy a 919 preferable used.

I wanted to know the amount of maintenance the 919 requires

usage: 1500 miles /month - 8 months a yr

Do you have to lube the chain every week?
Ho often do you have to change the oil and tighten the chain?

Do tires need to be changed every year? How about brakes?

-
Thanks
Gerry

Re: Question on maintenance of 919

I think you've got about the right idea on average. Oil and brake pad changes might be a little more frequent than with a car, and chain tightening gets a more frequent as the chain wears. Early on in a chain's life, with adequate lube, probably expect to adjust every 4-6 weeks - later every 2-3 at your mileage. And then it's probably about time for a new chain anyway. Tires about a year for you or maybe somewhat more if you get tires made for touring or distance as opposed to "sport" tires. Some tires and riders don't get that kind of mileage, but I think many do.

Re: Question on maintenance of 919

No, This is not my first bike.

This will be my third but the first in US.
I had a Yamaha 250 and a CBR 400 before.

The maintenance is easier and cheaper when you live in a developing country. Drop off the bike at regular times at the dealership and be on good terms with the person working on your bike. Commutes are shorter too so the miles don't add up as much.

Re: Question on maintenance of 919

Thanks Swilly for the answer.

Looks like the maintenance is manageable.

Re: Question on maintenance of 919

I just went through the chain-thing. It's fairly easy with a swingarm stand, and some big sockets. Also google for some chain adjusting tips if you've never done it before. You don't want your rear tire cocked at an angle.

Re: Question on maintenance of 919

Yes, HOWEVER, I only adjust it if it's out of limit, which I check every time I ride, or once a day. So yes, sometimes it's 2-6 weeks, sometimes it's quite a bit longer. Be safe.
